Marco Rubio, Florida's GOP senator, unveils his reform ideas to 'modernize' the system and put illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship.
Marco Rubio41-year-old son of working-class Cuban exileshas lived the upwardly mobile immigrant experience. In his fast rise, the Florida Republican has also experienced the politics of immigration

"Here's how I envision it," he says. "They would have to come forward. They would have to undergo a background check." Anyone who committed a serious crime would be deported. "They would be fingerprinted," he continues. "They would have to pay a fine, pay back taxes, maybe even do community service. They would have to prove they've been here for an extended period of time. They understand some English and are assimilated. Then most of them would get legal status and be allowed to stay in this country."

This would be Sarah Palin’s prime opportunity to run. In a primary vs Rubio, Palin would run away with it....even with the GOPe going heavily for Rubio
Calling legal immigrants wetbacks most certainly is.
What type of attitude——that of a Democrat? If that’s what it takes, they’ll win without me.
What you and Rubio want to do means an end to Republicans winning elections and a permanently changed demographic. But you just don’t get it.
He plagiarized that right out of McCain’s website.....
Exactly. Word 4 Word just about
Sarah supports a pathway to legalization. Google her interview with Bill O’Reilly.
Reach around republicrats.
Lighten up.
LOL
Exactly
Next thing ya know we’ll be calling homosexuals “Turd Burglars” LOL
I love you Marco but this dosen’t cut it for me.
Rubio is a realist. He realizes that deporting millions of people including children is just not going to happen. If this type of measure had been passed when Bush was president and Republicans still controlled Congress, we would have tied up the Hispanic vote for the foreseeable future, but instead those sensible measures were defeated by the xenophobes on the right and now we are facing catastrophe.
When is National Security/Border Security “xenophobic”
For the few Hispanic voters we may get pushing Illegal Alien Amnesty (not all Hispanics want Amnesty)...we get a lot more conservative Dems who appreciate getting tough on Illegal Aliens...especially now that the major labor unions support Illegal Alien Amnesty
This “Illegal Alien Amnesty brings Hispanic Voters” is a myth pushed by the Liberal media...something that Fox News has picked up from MSNBC
Hispanics will not vote for GOP just because the GOP is willing to give Illegal Alien Amnesty. Puerto-Rican Americans could care less whether you give Illegal Mexicans and Dominicans “amnesty”...Cuban-Americans the same (they have their own immigration rules due to Castro/Communism).
And, if Illegal Alien Amnesty meant Hispanic votes....then how did McCain, who authored the 2007 Amnesty Bill...end up with 31% of the vote in 2008? (Romney had 27& in 2012)
The red flag for me was when Jeb Bush & all the freepers who swore up and down that Mel Martinez was a solidly conservative "rising star" and "a Cuban-American who is against illegal immigration" said the SAME thing about Rubio 6 years later. In both cases, the MOMENT their candidate announced for the Senate, we were supposed to get aboard with their candidacy and not research or look into their record.
The one major difference was the race quickly evolved into Rubio vs. Crist, so we were left with no choice but to back Rubio.
But it's your type of attitude that keeps the GOP from winning -- period.
And that is the attitude of a quitter -- period.
Next thing ya know well be calling homosexuals Turd Burglars LOL
LMAO
Or calling them “Reproductively Challenged”
It’s the unrealistic expectations and demands of the purists that leads to defeat. Look at McCain’s and Romney’s defeats. When we all are reasonable and work together we achieve victory as we did with Bush’s presidency and capture of the House and Senate. That is winning.
Calling legal immigrants wetbacks most certainly is.
Not as offensive as referring to Illegal Aliens as “Immigrants”
As a legal immigrant, that is offensive. That is like calling a shoplifter a “customer, or calling a rapist an “undocumented copulator”
Rubio /Bush is a problem. Education will be privatized and controlled by non-elected foundations and hedge fund $$$. Not a good thing. Once again.. follow the money.
The 30 thousand + illegals in America right now are enough to create some 50 new congressional districts and all the expenses they create and all the democrat votes they produce.
Illegals are nothing but government growth hormone and anyone asking them to stay is calling for even bigger government.
Everyone, please take a few moments to educate yourselves on Sara via her post history over the last week or two.
She is willing to moderate the abortion issue (AKA the lives of children) for GOP votes as she said clearly in several posts.
She has also gone on a multithread spree over the gun issue with some positions that run very contrary to conservative thought.
I and several other posters have spent thousands of words debating her. It is useless. So before you give her the time of day, read up.

True. The cost of assimilating all those Illegal Aliens will be put on the backs of taxpayers....even with all the Illegals now getting government services and benefits....it would multiply if all made “Legal” or given “a path to citizenship”
