FARMINGTON, N.M., Dec. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- An energy conference scheduled for March 18 and 19, 2013, will feature a series of presentations about new drilling for shale oil in the Mancos Shale Formation of the Four Corners Region of Northwest New Mexico. Looks to be another large area of oil production and jobs!
Not to get all green and gooey but I hope they can get the energy with minimal impact on a unique landscape. I’m also glad to see the locals get a shot at some good jobs.
There has been drilling in this area for more than fifty years without any appreciable damage to the landscape.
Like yesterday's drilling, shale oil & gas drilling will leave a drill pad -- and they'll be somewhat larger than previous pads, but far fewer of them. Multiple horizontal wells will be drilled from this single pad.
And there will be a new system of buried collection pipelines.
The San Juan Basin will look pretty much like it always has.
Too bad the folks there do not vote for conservatives.
They went ‘big time’ for Obama this last election.
I believe there is a very large Navajo Nation population there.
Perhaps they should petition EPA to come in and do a review and assessment for a few years before there can be any drilling - followed by a mitigation plan and carbon offset purchases. After all, it would be hypocritical for the local Obama voters to benefit from any assaults on Mother Gaia.

I agree. Anyone that voted for jug ears should NOT reap any benefits from an industry that he is against. Instead, they should reap the red-tape communist bureaucracy that they voted for. IE: no money, no jobs, but more taxes.

You are confusing the San Juan Basin with, perhaps, New Mexico as a whole.
The San Juan Basin favored Romney in the 2012 election -- especially so in San Juan County, NM.

Thus, the four counties in the basin voted for Romney (47.5K) over Obama (39.6K). The Navajo Reservation comprises most of the Arizona county, explaining their vote for Obama.
The Red/Blue map I saw distinctly had a large area around Four Corners colored in Blue. Or, maybe once again I’m the colors mixed up.
Around Four Corners, yes. Large Hispanic and Native American influence -- plus the affluent libs clustered in LaPlata County, CO.
But three of the four Four Corners counties are Red as can be.
