Maybe he can venture around parts of the country that resist tyranny?
Maybe people in those parts can "re-educate" him on what liberty means.

I’m an LE Officer/former Marine, and I say this bonehead should be fired immediately. Fellow freepers broad brushing LE officers as if we are in agreement with the current assault on our common rights need to check yourselves. We are not the enemy... The political class is, and police chiefs are entirely political.

I imagine there are very few law-abiding citizens who, at this point, fear the cops. And many cops are still “in it” for all the right reasons.
But the upper echelons of big city/blue state police forces are easily co-opted by big labor and big political interests, which we all know are increasingly veering in a direction that could make the USA a Police State in due time.
I was on the premises during the years that the Left finished off the co-option of the Lamestream Media (1980s and 1990s), and the fact is the PDs will fall into lock-step with the governing orthodoxy even easier than the media did.
THIS is why we don’t give up our guns to an oppressive, tyrannical govt in the making.

People and society as a whole were more respectful and disciplined then. Unfortunately there have been too many changes in our culture for the worse in the last 50 years. We closed the reform schools and psychiatric hospitals, increased entitlements to even the most undeserving, embraced the drug and electronic culture, single "parent" homes and we have become more and more isolated from family and friends.

That’s why I say don’t depend on local cops to stand with the people against the government. They ARE the government and I doubt 10% of them knows what’s in the constitution.
What he actually said is a lot different from what the author said he said:
“So I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire...”
There is all the difference in the world between having a gun in a holster, concealed carry or not, and *brandishing* that gun, which is what the chief said.
Put yourself in that situation: For some reason, you have brandished your cc for self defense, and are standing there, holding the gun at your side, so that policemen behind you can see it.
Cops are generally not quiet, so they are screaming at you, most likely to “drop your gun!” Do you:
Turn around with your gun in your hand? Or, do you slowly set your gun down, slowly stand up with them seeing both your hands, with fingers spread apart, as you slowly turn around?
There is an old military trick that is good to use when getting police orders: repeat back to them the order they gave, in the first person, while indicating that you are carrying out their orders.
“You! Drop your gun!”
“I am setting my gun down!”
“Now slowly turn around keeping your hands visible!”
“I am now slowly turning around and keeping my hands visible!”
I know this sounds weird, but it’s surprising how quickly you get used to it, and how reassuring it is to someone who is drawing down on you.

WT-ef? This is the chief of police of one of America’s murder capitals? We’re sounding more and more like a third-world nation every day, with little despots rising up all regional-like whenever they think they can get away with it. And where is the media on this crap? Can they not see what is going to happen to them, along with everyone else, if something is not done soon?
