US Flu "Epidemic" Worst in Decade

An agressive flu strain is spreading quickly across the country. Hospitals from coast to coast are being forced to divert patients from their overcrowded emergency rooms.

"I can't say it enough," Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said. "Please all of everyone out there, get to the health centers where you can get you flu shot."

This winter has had the earliest and worst outbreak of deadly flu virus in a decade.

Positive cases of influenza in the U.S. rose 60 percent during the last week of December.

In the week ending on Dec. 29, 2012, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported there were 2,961 positive influenza test results out of 9,363 specimens nationwide, or 31.6 percent. Near the Great Lakes, the hardest-hit region, reports nearly 60 percent of those who were checked tested positive for the flu.

By “conspiracy nut” I assume you mean intelligent, logical thinking individual?

Conspiracies have, with the MSM’s help over the years, proven the most efficient way of doing tyranny’s business; why would anyone expect them to abandon them now?

We are having an “epidemic” because we “need” an epidemic, and the MSM is happy to comply.

(I know of no one that has the flu presently)

Thanks for the info and good luck. Never having had my own kid I’m pretty ignorant about most issues surrounding childbirth. It will be an even bigger relief than normal when the baby girl is born (hopefully later today). This pregnancy was more difficult than all of the others put together. We weren’t even sure if the mother’s heart was going to bear up to the strain. Prayers always appreciated.

We have had about 80 cases of confirmed flu A.. We are being told at least three quarters of our positives had the flu shot. Of course, we are relying on mostly on patient’s recollection of the flu shot. However, I seriously doubt all of those who say they got the shot were wrong. Never had the flu shot.. never will. I had a upper resp virus which was confirmed to be Non fluA and Non flu B.. of course even with the test everyone insisted I had the flu. Someone left the lab door open again and this time, not in Mexico. As a lab rat I hafta say... oops.

Knarf, this is going to be one of those rare times when I have to agree with Kozak.

What you did is the very worst thing that you can do. I never take antibiotics, but if you do take them, you have to continue them to get the maximum reduction.

A small number of doses will do just as much damage to your digestion, and immune system as the full course will, so what you get is the worst of both worlds.

Good choice!

Sperm antibodies can promote all kinds of auto-immune responses, and damage your vision, and hearing.

A healthy sex life leads to a long healthy life.

Every ten years since the ‘70’s, one or another gov’t agency has given me the full scope of vaccinations for typhoid, cholera, hepatitus, yellow fever, the list goes on—I have been certified for worldwide travel for almost 30 years. Except for childhood and alcohol-induced illnesses, I have never been bed-ridden sick, just low grade stuff that lasts no more than 18-24 hours. I think a “well-exercised” immune system has had something to do with it.

Yeah, I know .. you shouldn't keep them .. use all of 'em because they're measured or something.

Measured? I don't know what you mean by that.

I do know however, that while it's common to feel better after a few days on an antibiotic, not taking the full prescription can "stun" the bacterial, rather than kill it. This can lead to resistance against the bacteria strain, effectively making it stronger and more dangerous to humans.

Second, all drugs expire after a while. Your "stash" could be expired, and ineffective.

My digestion works fine.

I'm 65 in a few weeks and I eat an Asian diet .. rice, veggies and small bits of meat or fish.

I appreciate the comments about finishing a prescripotion, but empirical evidence over the years has yet to indicate any problems.

If I die earlier than what I should or what anyone thinks I should, it will be for not quitting smoking soon enough

Besides .. I know where I'm going, whom I'll meet and whom will follow ... eternity doesn't look that bad.

Someone left the lab door open again and this time, not in Mexico.

Not so fast there. The Laredo Times was reporting this week that 50% of the 200k+ population of Laredo had it. There is only the river that separates Laredo, TX from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

RE :”I’ve never gotten the flu shot and I’ve never gotten the flu. It may have something to do with the military rebuilding my immune system when I was a kid, I don’t know. I keep my hands clean, avoid touching inanimate objects if I don’t have to and generally stay healthy. It’s worked well so far.”

I am in the same boat(fingers crossed) and plan on waiting till I get it at least once before I get the shot, or i am at a more vunerable age,..

I figure ‘if it aint broke...’

Very difficult to tell how well these things work.

I’ve never had a gummint injection

I came down with an upper chest congestion about 8 or 9 days ago, took some old Cipro I kept from the last time I ... don’t remember why ... but I kept ‘em (always do), and I feel a lot better now

I always keep an antibiotic stash, just in case.

Yeah, I know .. you shouldn’t keep them .. use all of ‘em because they’re measured or something.

I’ve never completed the 2 a day for 10 day routine,

And thats one of the reasons bacteria are becoming more and more resistant to antibiotics. People don’t finish the prescribed course and the infection isn’t completely eliminated. The bacteria that survive build up a resistance to the antibiotic. There are actually reasons that directions are given.

A conspiracy nut might think that this is an effort to build support for Obamacare.

A reality nut might think that the strain of flu that's spreading wasn't included in this year's vaccine. The WHO tries to anticipate what strains are likely to hit and create a vaccine in time to get it into the channel so people can get the shot. I think I've already read this strain slipped in under the radar.

“Why?”

They don’t have their own doctors—they just show up at ERs and clinics and expect free care.

I got mine last week and the nurse said my arm would be sore..didn’t feel anything either, but this week I feel like CR@p. Sore throat, etc. So much for the flu shot. But my arm is not sore.

Yeah, I’m an ER doc. We are crushed with flu patients.

You may be interested in Pandemic Flu Information Forum. It is a news aggregation site like FR, but specifically for Influenza.

I have found N-Acetylcysteine and D3 is also helpful, both prophylactically and in addition to motrin for treatment. YMMV.
