Pushing back against calls for greater gun control from some members in Congress, conservative groups have now launched a Chick-fil-A style 'Gun Appreciation Day' set to take place on January 19, 2013.
According to US News and World Report:
"If all goes according to plan, gun lovers will come out in droves on January 19 to support gun stores, gun ranges, and gun shows."
"The national "Gun Appreciation Day," which is being launched by a coalition of conservative and gun rights groups, will take place a day before California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein is expected to introduce legislation for an assault weapon ban," according to the Report.
"We felt that there needed to be a swift, strong statement, Chick-fil-A style, to show that we're not only here but we're vocal," Gun Appreciation Day chairman and president of Republican new media consulting firm Political Media, Inc., Larry Ward tells the Report.
On Aug. 1 of last year, Chick-fil-A enjoyed a record-setting day as customers flocked to the national chain to show their support for the pro-traditional marriage statements made by the company's president.
Will gun retailers experience the same record-setting volume on Jan. 19?

Good point. I stopped into a range near my home just to find out (actually I already knew, I just had to find out officially) and not only were they sold out of ARs, etc, and not knowing when they’d have more, the handgun displays were almost bare too.
Instead of having everyone go to various gun stores around the country (which will be ignored by the media and politicians) they should have everyone assemble on the steps of the local capital or government office in their city. That way we can show up in force and show our numbers. It would also be harder for the press to ignore.
I wanted to get a brick or two of .22 LR for plinking the other day. The sporting goods dept didn't have a single box of any .22 on the shelf. No .45 or .30 carbine shells either.
They've partially redeemed themselves through the reinstitution of firearm sales, and much of their "better" selection is out of stock, but Cheaper Than Dirt does still have some select items in stock. I've been throwing some money at them since Christmas for odds-and-ends to complete some modifications I've been wanting to make.
There’s a pro-gun rally going on in Denver right now.
I think I’ll pick up some Magpul “parts”. My buddy still has em in his shop and at a decent price too. :-)
It’s a shop locally event. So you can visit your favorite gun store and give them words of encouragement as you buy a few supplies on that day. I think it’s a great idea. I hope they have stuff worth buying because a lot of stock is getting bought up.
You are correct.
I am not sure why I thought (when I posted) the event was in DC.
Very pleased to learn this was local.
Although I will not be in my home town, I will be in Arizona on that day, I am sure I can find a proper store.
We all support each other. We spend money with each other, within our own groups, and have each others’ six.
Anything $$$ you spend in a gun shop is $$$ that helps someone else get a firearm to defend themselves, ultimately, because that owner stays in business a little longer.
Capitalism...”it’s not just for breakfast anymore...”
How many fraud politicians will show up screaming “I’m with you! Re-elect me!”
Gun Clubs are also a great place to hang out and make friends!
