Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal says military-style guns don't belong on the streets of America

Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal called for “serious” gun control measures on Tuesday, saying the weapons used by his troops in Afghanistan don’t belong on the streets of America. McChrystal said the M4 Carbine he often carried in the military held a .223 caliber round capable of doing “devastating” damage to a human body.

“It’s designed to do that, and that’s what our soldiers ought to carry,” McChrystal said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Tuesday morning. “I personally don’t think there’s any need for that kind of weaponry on the streets and particularly around the schools in America."

In my area of Penna, for the past 2 weekends, the several Nat’l Guard Armories were overflowing with soldiers’ cars and trucks. Except for 9-11-01, I’ve never seen such activity at those sites.

Another one of our modern pussy generals. This is the one flying his gulfstream (with a reporter from rolling stone)to Paris to dine with diplomats.
He, Petreaus, Allen, Dempsey, all made big rank in the Clinton era, and are failures at war, and budding neo-totalitarians who happily embrace the leftist agenda.

If this round is so lethal that it should be denied law enforcement under posse comitatus, then o.k. I’d even o.k. the issue of rounds, each one of which is to be accounted for, for special occasions, and otherwise ban it. (That’s Norway’s approach.) But, if the gubmit’s buying hundreds of millions of these “military” rounds of ammunition for law enforcement, saying it’s a military weapon is bs.

For the lurkers 2, In laymans terms. The .223 that the general is saying is so scary powerful is considered by most all hunters to be too small to shoot even a deer with. The minimum caliber for most game in North America is probably the 30-06. It has been around for over 100 years. Some will make the case that it is even too small for a large bear. It is clearly too small for the largest African game. So even for hunting there is a need for rifles up to .50 cal. Not that the 2nd amend has anything to do with hunting, but that’s a different discussion.

A military commander follows unlawful orders and fires on American citizens has opened a HUGE can of worms for himself.

These people have no idea the consequences of such acts. If any of these dummies believes they could suppress a hundred million gun owners they are deranged.

Additionally if any commanding officer is even contemplating firing on an American citizen they need to removed from command.

Oath breakers make me sick. These idiots wonder why the people need arms.

For the lurkers. The .223 round that the general is saying is so powerful is really a squirrel gun.

Exactly. While controversial, some states actually ban the .223 for hunting deer.

It’s time to purge the whole GD Military starting with the current crop of Pentagon shitstains and work down the line. These tools have failed since General Patton crossed the Rhine.

The best way to get them off the streets is to disarm all of the SWAT teams in the US and make them mobile gun free zones.

It was chosen by the modern military for 2 reasons. 1. It’s cheap. 2. In a war situation it’s often better to wound an enemy than kill them.

True and true, but the primary reason the .223 was adopted is because it's light and soldiers could carry more ammunition. When you're humping a bunch of gear through the jungle, every ounce counts.

Why do they always babble about "On the streets"? WTH does that mean? People walking around with AK/ARs held at the ready as they stroll through the neighborhood?

Or maybe scattered around the pavement like M&Ms? Such excrement calculated to get an emotional "feelings" response from the idiots........

Up until 1934 the average CITIZEN was better armed than the US ARMY.

Yet the Army never cried about being outgunned.

“I personally don’t think there’s any need for that kind of weaponry on the streets and particularly around the schools in America.” Well you heard it, time to make all our LEO’s disarm! I am actually fed up with the double standard for cops anyway. And would someone explain to me why the .223 is so scary? The M-14 was a .308 and had a twenty round magazine, but I don’t remember people wetting their pants over it, and the .308 is much more powerful than the diminutive .223.

Pretty much any bullet can do devastating damage to the human body, if it hits the right spot. .223 was chosen because it has less recoil and easier to control under full auto or burst fire, not because it is all that powerful. Plus you can carry a lot more ammo for the same amount of weight as 7.62.

Fortunately, Generals George Washington and George Patton Jr. know a HELL more about "effectively" defending Freedom than the good "genteel" Gen. McCrystal ...

It's a good thing Gen. McCrystal wasn't advising the Jewish Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto ...

As with all tools, different situations require different tools. The M855A1 ammunition is actually very effective against human targets in suburban/city settings. Higher caliber rounds are more effective in open areas or any setting where distance is an advantage.

Military issue .556 is designed to yaw thus causing grievous internal injury. This is the primary reason you don’t want to use it for hunting. The round does not travel straight through the animal. It is also designed to disintegrate, which will contaminate the meat.

If the .55X round wasn’t so effect against human targets it would not be used by just about every army in the world.
