Doesn't he see? The country's financial problems are well on the way to being solved. What you do is, you take two platinum discs. You stamp a portrait of Obama on them and deposit them in the treasury, then....
Now, about those guns...

Sounds good. I don’t trust him not to cave, though....

You know, if McConnell & the GOP hold any gun control legislation politically hostage to first getting the economic house in order, gun control won't ever happen.
In a perfect world. Which would also mean I'd have the house paid off and horses in the back forty. $;-)

debate about potential gun legislation in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting will take a back seat... Why not this...debate about potential gun legislation in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting is off the table, the 2nd amendment is still the law of the land.

Right, what?
I'm not sure what you heard, but I think what the Dems heard was that gun control was on the table as a trading chip for the solution for the debt limit.
The right answer would have been that there will not be any debate about the 2nd Amendment before, during or after any financial problem discussions. So, let's get on with the money trouble talks.
McConnell just said that our freedom was less important than money issues.

Mitch reminds me of Mr. Peepers...a character played by Wally Cox on TV in the late 1950s or thereabouts...all he needs is that little umbrella...
Elections have consequences and Mitch the gimmys and the slackers are in control of the Senate...so good luck Mr Peepers!

Mitch is in the minority party. He doesn’t control the agenda.

McConnell doesn’t run the Senate. He doesn’t set the agenda - the liberal Democrats do.
That said, McConnell has promised all kinds of things - then at the last minute turns around and recants. The “fiscal cliff” negotiations a week ago were the last thing he gave the left.
You actually think McConnell is going to stop the left from doing anything it wants?
