As discussed before, Senator Dianne Feinstein's (D-CA) proposed legislation to ban so-called "assault weapons" would amount to gun confiscation for many tens of thousands of peaceable, responsible, law abiding Americans. For the rest of the owners of these politically incorrect firearms, Feinstein's (as yet unreleased, but described in some detail) bill would merely mean a requirement for registration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE).
Saying that the legislation would "merely mean registration" somewhat implies that registration does not lead to confiscation--that ease of confiscation is not, indeed, pretty much the point of registration. That notion is probably a tough sell for anyone who has followed the history of gun politics, both in the U.S. and abroad. Feinstein's home state, in fact, received "extra credit" in the Brady Campaign's ranking of states for anti-gun tyranny, specifically for using the gun registry for the purpose of wholesale confiscations.
Meanwhile, Americans are buying so-called "assault weapons" at a pace never seen before, and gun shows are packed like never before (see sidebar video), with "assault weapons," and ammo in calibers most associated with such firearms being by far the most highly sought items. At Midway USA, a huge online supplier of gun parts, ammunition and accessories, AR-15 magazines (of any size), upper receivers, and ammunition in .223 Remington or 5.56mm NATO are simply not to be had (generally not even via backorder)--and the rest of the gun retail world is in the same boat. One notable exception, by the way, is manufacturer Daniel Defense (known mostly for high-quality AR-15 parts), who had prepared for this, and is still serving the buying public--without a price hike.

Furthermore...if I were ever part of a jury hearing charges against a citizen for failure to register I would vote not guilty. Jury nullification is a potent weapon against unconstitutional government actions.
I don't approve of questions like that for a lie detector. Every body has at least one thing, and it'll spike the values just remembering it. It's a question designed to make you fail, no matter what. For that matter, I don't approve of "lie detectors."
Maybe your scenario occurs, but what happens when you and a hundred million gun owners are released? In your scenario we will have a hundred million people with nothing to lose.
I think both sides are waiting for a spark. Once this powder keg let’s loose all bets are off.
We don't talk about what guns we may or may not own.
I don’t either and I make sure and tell them every time and that all it is, is a body response meter. They ask subjective questions and want objective answers.
Now, before I have to take one, I drink 4 or 5 espressos, have a cigar, and get myself all worked up inside, like the opposite of zen. They don’t even know if I’m answering the control questions truthfully, just a lot of jumping lines.
or lumberjacks and baseball players...
Yes, a "sacrificial offering" would probably keep the jackbooted thugs from gutting your house - at lease initially. At the very least, any hardware built in the days before serial numbers and/or purchased off-paper should be stored away from the stuff they might come looking for.
As for the Mini-14, did you know that a version was sold in the U.K. after their gun ban? It lacked a complete gas system; there was no gas port drilled. It became a straight-pull bolt action. Wasn't there a pump version of the AR on the market in California?
That is a good plan. I may not be able to control what happens during the questions, but I can sure as heck screw up the control questions.
Only problem is that it takes a lot out of you and you probably will have to take more tests because the results will be considered inconclusive. I really hate them and the people that administer them.
I’ve been fortunate that I never had an employer require one. But take cheer about something: Somebody has to pay for those repeated tests...the fools that require them, usually.
Unfortunately it’s some govt security weenie.
Good one, very easy to transpose those serial numbers. Sorry Mr Officer, I thought that was an 8.
We will have to get the word out fast when the first confiscation happens. They may shut down all communications before they begin.
A piecemeal plan will not work, there will have to be a coordinated effort that will take thousands of LE. I don’t think they can keep their plans secret then.
the first set of raids will be a surprise but then Game On.
Steel silhouettes planted as false positives for ground penetrating radar would keep someone busy digging also. A pipe trencher would set them sufficiently deep; and, running a disk would soften surrounding soil, confusing the issue of soil density test. Put enough out and make it prohibitively expensive to run them down!
these are politicians, they would most likely compromise anything to have their pork project funded. Even the second.
Or they do one of the “I will vote yes as long as I can save face by voting no...” sleazy deals.
That is a great idea. Does any one currently sell them??? Now there is a chance to make millions!
Ask her to explain how guns could be confiscated WITHOUT registration. You gotta know who has them and where they are.
