Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal backed banning assault weapons on Tuesday, saying guns like the M4 and M16 belong in the hands of soldiers, not on the streets.
I spent a career carrying typically either a M16 and later, a M4 carbine, McChrystal said on MSNBCs Morning Joe. And a M4 carbine fires a .223 caliber round, which is 5.56 millimeters, at about 3,000 feet per second. When it hits a human body, the effects are devastating. Its designed to do that. Thats what our soldiers ought to carry.
He added, I personally dont think theres any need for that kind of weaponry on the streets and particularly around the schools in America. I believe that weve got to take a serious look I understand everybodys desire to have whatever they want we have to protect our children and our police and we have to protect our population. And I think we have to take a very mature look at that.
McChrystal, who resigned as the top commander in Afghanistan after a Rolling Stone article portrayed him criticizing President Barack Obama, was promoting his memoir, My Share of the Task.
Obama is preparing to introduce legislation aiming to prevent mass shootings by the end of the month. Vice President Joe Biden is leading a task force on the issue and is reportedly considering a ban on assault weapons.
I think we have to look at this legislation, McChrystal said. The number of people killed by firearms is extraordinary compared to other nations. I dont think were a bloodthirsty culture, and we need to look at everything we can do to safeguard our people.
“You cant buy the M4 or M16, only semi-automatic imitations.”
You would think a “General” would know that unless he is willing to say anything to get on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Who cares what he thinks? A guy like McChrystal got to where he was by going along and “parroting” back what his masters told him. Obedience is the first thing they teach in the military. Remember, he was fired not so much because of what he said or did, but because some of those under him didn’t go along with der 0berFuhrer 0bama.
It’s epic leadership like this that brought us the great victory we achieved in Afghanistan.
Which is why I personally question the reasoning that says, in the event of a blatant attempt at confiscation and usurpation of our 2nd Amendment rights, the military and police will refuse their orders. I just don't see it happening.
McChrystel needs to reread the 2nd Amendment and explain to me what ‘arms’ it says we are allowed.
It should be educational to see what he says.
Do we not have ANY military leaders we can trust, who understand this nation and it’s founding, who will defend it’s people from it’s politicians? These guys have all gone politically correct on us and when things get bad are not going to chose our side.
I, _____, having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God." (DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Many military/LEO are against the people bearing arms as long as they have theirs. It’s a power thing. They can all f*** themselves.
Chicago had 532 gun deaths in 2012. I wonder what percent of the national total that would be? Most restrictive gun laws in the nation, working well for the Chicago style. Libtards are simply evil with agenda that has nothing to do with safety or caring.
Gunner
He is the kind of puke who would follow an illegal order to fire upon the citizens of this country.
It was either that or this:
I agree. I was walking down the street the other day and kept tripping over M4s, AK-47s, AR-15s. They’re everywhere!
Get these weapons off the streets...now!
Yeah, he is. wow. That’s very disappointing.
It is important to remember that, once an officer gets past the rank of LTC, possibly once he gets past the rank of Captain, he is more a politician than a soldier.
McChrystal is no longer a soldier but a politician and will say or do anything to advance his position within this Administration.
The M4 and M16 are selective-fire weapons and are severely restricted on the civilian market, subject to licensing and taxes. When available at all they command 5-figure price tags. They are NOT readily available to criminals and are NOT comparable to civilian AR15 firearms.
None of the "massacres" of late were committed with M4s or M16, or with any other automatic weapons, for that matter. In every case, the crimes were carried out with civilian weapons.
If he thinks the ballistics of the 5.56 are frightening he should read up on the ballistics of commercial hunting cartridges like the 7mm Remington Magnum. But he might have nightmares afterwards so perhaps he shouldn't.
Where do we find these candyass "soldiers"?
Do we not have ANY military leaders we can trust,
Sadly it is not looking like it. What a brown-nosing puke!
I don’t know about anybody else, but I am already sick of seeing this pos all over my TV.
The democrats definition of an assault rifle is a gun that fires as fast as you can pull the trigger. My Grandfather bought a 12 gauge double barrel Ranger when he returned from World War 1. It fires as fast as you can pull the trigger. It can also fire two rounds at the same time. Much larger bullet than a little .223. My Ruger security six revolver fires as fast as you can pull the trigger. A nine shot 22 caliber revolver fires as fast as you can pull the trigger. Every automatic shotgun ever made fires as fast as you can pull the trigger. Do you know of many hunting guns that don’t fire a bullet larger in diameter than .223? Oh yeah, right the .17 that fires a big bb sized bullet.
As you were, General. There are very few M4's and M16's in the hands of civilians. If they are, they are pre-1986 BATF tax-stamped.
Then you haven't been listening to some Democrats who want to take our 401Ks!!!
