Great article, ‘cept he apologizes too much.
Cheers.
I wish I had professors like him when I was in college. Or even that I lived close enough to audit some of his courses now.
I will say it is quite obvious why he waited for tenure to be an overt conservative (or perhaps that’s when he changed). No way anyone would ever get tenure with attitudes like that.
You can be the absolute best in your field, but if you insult leftist pieties like that you are toast. Academia is no place for differences in though according to the Left.
Fess up, you'd just like to watch him bitch slap some libtard students.
LOL That might could use a warning. I hate feminists. They’re just so gross.
ok why does he hate girls with fathers who were neglectful and how is this a “conservative” position exactly?
“Somewhere out there there’s 4 terrible fathers that I wish I could thank.”
Mommy/daddy issues...
Adams, it’s a college FGS. If you can’t stand immature people, maybe YOU should join the Army.
Methinks he's just a grumpy Righty who's not so well-educated himself.
(Nice to see some smackdown of Lefty ideals on campus, though.)
You’ve never read Professor Adam’s column, did you?
I don’t think he hates them. Saying he’s “offended” by their immaturity is just using lefty language to make a righty point: You are responsible for yourself, and you can’t compensate for your refusal to grow up by treating teacher as a substitute daddy- will-cover-for-me figure. Sometimes, forcing someone to grow up is the kindest thing you can do for them.
How does his being bluntly--and perhaps even abrasively--frank in his observation of "girls with daddy issues" translate into "he hate[s] girls"?
Please don't misunderstand. I'm not attacking you; but I am questioning your conclusion. Help me out here. To my eye he's bluntly (and yes, abrasively) telling his female students that he simply doesn't want to be a surrogate father. In any context. However temporarily.
And though I think that he is wrong to do so (think of the opportunity for not only shepherding a young woman past the pain of her past, but also to help her grow beyond episodes of adolescent hyperventilation), so what? How does his bluntness mean "hate" exactly?
and how is this a conservative position exactly?
If you're trying to play the "Hate is not a Family Value" meme, then I respectfully ask you to consider the possibility that you are allowing emotion to cloud your thinking. To my eye the CRM 495 professor, with his "Go tell your daddy" comment, is merely pointing out to his female students (again, in an abrasive fashion) that he doesn't think he can do anything about fixing their daddy issues. So, again I ask you, how does that mean "he hates girls"? I'll concede that he may very well hate the hyperventilating. (After all, something's put a burr in his butt.) But hating the bad behavior is light-years away from hating the person, no?
And isn't it a conservative position to expect others to take responsibility for their lives rather than playing the victim card all the time? I was abused as a child. So what? The hallmark of humankind seems to be that The Innocent suffer at the hands of The Powerful. There's been plenty of child abuse and neglect for centuries; and there will be plenty more to come I'm afraid.
But if I'm late for class in college (or miss a project deadline at work), I need to own up to it. Not blame my father or mother for the crappy way they treated me as a child. And if I do have profound emotional scars (many of us do), I need to seek professional help, maybe even psychiatric help. Trying to turn my sociology professor into something he is not is patently unfair to him. Perhaps that's why he comes across as so pissed?
Cheers.
He did not claim to "hate" them; you have (probably unwittingly) fallen into the leftist practice of misstating meanings. He even apologizes for offending them.
Since the course Adams is preparing to teach is a senior ‘capstone’ course, it is very likely that every student enrolled has had previous studies with Professor Adams. He is just getting them in the mood for his presentations with this email.
I doubt that any of his ‘offendings’ are new to these students.
