Those “assult weapons” weapons used today in combat( excepting 50 cal) we don’t even use for hunting excepting small game. Calling one shot per trigger pull “assult weapons” is a joke because it takes several rounds to drop a target no matter what the gun design looks like.
There was decision made in using the smaller caliber going from 30 to an automatic 22.3 and that was to clog the aid stations with wounded and not killed. Because it ties up more personell servicing the wounded in combat than those KIA.
We learned that from the Japanese in WW2. They used 6MM that would only wound a GI. They knew that we did not leave our wounded like they did so every wounded GI took two able bodied soldiers off the battlefiled.
