The White House Is Planning A Major Push On Guns, And One Democratic Senator Is Already Calling It 'Extreme'

The White House's task force led by Vice President Joe Biden is considering expansive proposals to tackle the nation's gun violence, something that is already drawing early condemnation from even Democratic lawmakers.
The Washington Post reported Sunday that the group headed by Biden is preparing to go far beyond a simple reinstatement of the expired assault weapons ban:
A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.
But on Sunday, newly sworn-in Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, a Democrat from North Dakota, called the reported proposals "way in the extreme" and cautioned that they would not pass if brought together in a comprehensive bill.
"Well, I think you need to put everything on the table," Heitkamp said on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos."
"But what I hear from the administration and if The Washington Post is to be believed that's way, way in extreme of what I think is necessary or even should be talked about. And it's not going to pass."
It's an especially strong rebuke from the Democrat Heitkamp, who comes from a red-leaning state and earned an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association. The Post reported that the White House plans to bypass trying to earn support for the measure from the NRA, instead turning to businesses like Wal-Mart for support.
On "This Week," Heitkamp said that there should be

That's golden! I am going to use that one!
Just wonder which GOP will side with Obama on this new Gun Control Facism......you know there will be some. Look at all the liberal PhonyCons starting to support Illegal Alien after the election
Razamataz to divert attention away from the spending crisis.
Also, the real reason to nominate Hagel, to create a diversion from the spending crisis
Great post, Kris.
Is she related to Shirley Temple?
Mark
Oh no, no, no, no, no, only Republicans be extreme.
Get ready to look behind the curtain, the a##clown magician is going to throw out the smoke screen aka “gun ban legislation” while he pushes, passes or executive orders something unconstitutional.
Did you think Obama would get Obamacare passed? He did.
Did you think Obama would get Obamacare past the Supreme Court? He did.
Did you think Obama would get re-elected with the sorry state of the economy? He did.
It makes absolutely no difference what has happened historically. It makes absolutely no difference what used to be common knowledge. It makes absolutely no difference what used to be impossible.
With Obama, all bets are off.
We dismiss his efforts and underestimate him at our peril.
And we will be backed by the 2nd Amendment. Unlike you, I’m not the least bit concerned about his supporters or the “world as a whole”.
Why do I get the feeling that you’d be on the “world as a whole” side.
You are right Mark. I still have the tapes I made of the Senate and House hearings when Bubba’s ‘94 ban was being debated. The amount of BS that was thrown around by SlowJoe and Schmuck Schumer was beyond ridiculous. Biden is a fool beyond words but still extremely dangerous.
...Unless the gun in question has ever crossed state lines. My understanding is that Clinton got the federal gun free zone law re-instated under interstate commerce B.S.
See my post at #50 for my response to anyone who thinks these restrictions can't happen.
You badly overestimate the amateur. His only real accomplishments have been getting elected twice.
He had a supermajority in both houses of congress and still slmost blew it with freaking Obamacare. He had nothing whatsoever to do with Roberts caving in.
and he got reelected because we nominated a guy that none if us wanted to vote for in the primaries, and we seem amazed that no one else seemed to want to vote for him in the general.
No, the man is massively incompetent. Most of the damage he has done was done with our unwitting assistance.
Feinstein has yet to introduce any legislation on an AWB, but in the house, there is already H.R.138:
Latest Title: To prohibit the transfer or possession of large capacity ammunition feeding devices, and for other purposes.
Sponsor: Rep. McCarthy, Carolyn [D-NY-4]
Cosponsors: 1
Latest Action: 01/03/2013 Referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary.

Here is something you can sink your teeth into now!
The judiciary committee:

All the school killers were on brain mucking drugs prescribed by psychiatrists. It's time to ban antidepressants.... Even for people who don't have a problem with them... for now.
It's NOT guns - it's brain chemistry. We've had guns for hundreds of years - and schools for thousands... the "new' thing on the scene is liberal brain control drugs... http://www.wnd.com/2013/01/the-giant-gaping-hole-in-sandy-hook-reporting/
From the link:
But where, Id like to ask my colleagues in the media, is the reporting about the psychiatric medications the perpetrator who had been under treatment for mental-health problems may have been taking? After all, Mark and Louise Tambascio, family friends of the shooter and his mother, were interviewed on CBS 60 Minutes, during which Louise Tambascio told correspondent Scott Pelley: I know he was on medication and everything, but she homeschooled him at home cause he couldnt deal with the school classes sometimes, so she just homeschooled Adam at home. And that was her life. And here, Tambascio tells ABC News, I knew he was on medication, but thats all I know.
As my favorite Marine put it,”We don’t have to look for the enemy now,the poor bastards have us surrounded”
It's not congressional action we need to be concerned about in the short term. Obozo knows full well radical gun control, national registration and so forth stand little chance of making it through the house.
Furthermore, he's also aware of how slow the process can be with stiff opposition.
I think executive action is his lil surprise for America. Not sure the details, but what's to stop him from signing an executive order halting the sale of weapons/mags and instituting a national registry?
Someone smarter than me can probably share. I just take stock in Obozo’s comments after Conn. shooting. I will use all the power of my office...
Paraphrasing, but when he said, “the full power of his office” tells me executive action.
