A concerted effort to unseat Speaker John A. Boehner was under way the day of his re-election to the position, but participants called it off 30 minutes before the House floor vote, CQ Roll Call has learned.
A group of disaffected conservatives had agreed to vote against the Ohio lawmaker if they could get at least 25 members to join the effort. But one member, whose identity could not be verified, rescinded his or her participation the morning of the vote, leaving the group one person short of its self-imposed 25-member threshold. Only 17 votes against Boehner were required to force a second ballot, but the group wanted to have insurance.
Even with 24 members, the group would easily have been able to force a second ballot round, but the effort was aborted in frenetic discussions on the House floor.
There was an effort to get to a particular number, said one Republican member who voted for Boehner but was familiar with the effort to oust him.

Sit up straight and stop slouching.
The bad guys keep winning by narrow margins--the Obamacare vote in Congress, its approval by the Supreme Court, now Bonehead's victory.
I just have little confidence in their reporting, had no thoughts of banning them. They do well to expose themselves.
“Nothing is ever good enough for your purists.”
Nothing is ever too foul for kapo-conservatives.
“You people will never get near the reins of power.”
Not if we remain with the stump broke Republican party and its credulous peons.
“And thank you for letting the mask slip.
First honest thing one of you has said yet.”
Indeed it is. So glad one of the adulterated admits that they are distinct from us.
“Your post is reprehensible. Adam Lanza and only Adam Lanza is responsible.”
You must have seen something that I haven’t been able to find, the final report clearing up the inconsistencies. Please give me a link so I can see it too.
I have spent much of the past weeks flying between Florida, Ohio, Indian, Texas. Oklahoma and Washington state. It is possible I missed it’s release, but as I type this, my computer is searching and not finding anything close to a final report.
But, if you are right, if it was only one untrained 20 year old, God help us.
You are a complete nut and an embarrassment to the movement. Or maybe you are a DU troll trying to make FR look bad.
Typical that you didn’t address any of the points I made. Of course you can’t do that without proving me correct. Go ahead, purists, list ten things that are required for someone to be a conservative in your eyes. We all know why you haven’t.
Hey Johnny! Looks like the handles showed up finally!
It’s like this, which ever you are...
You are on a conservative site admitting (or your sailed charge admitted, whichever) that you are OK with exchanging the lives of unborn children for votes.
In no corner of conservative thought is that even remotely acceptable. Thus, by your own words, you outed yourself as a liberal. Or as what passes for a modern Republican...hard to tell the two apart really.
If you think I am as stupid as the rest of your party and will stand here answering all these questions of yours when you CLEARLY refused to address the several I asked you first, you are smoking something recently legalizes in some parts of the country.
Lastly you have to understand something about me. I’m good. I’m REAL good. I am so good that when I die, there will be shrines erected in my honor, songs written about my exploits and the firstborn children named after me the world over.
Why you ask? Simply because I am one of the rarest animals in all of politics. A conservative that understands conservatism, believes that words mean what they say and is not remotely afraid to argue it with liberals. And proud of it.
PS, Don’t abort that firstborn for a vote.
So toddle off and annoy someone else.
Of course, losing that conservative base is gonna make it darn hard to win elections.
But hey! you guys don't want or need us.
Bye.

LOL! Yep. Just like that.

Dude, it’s my style man! Osteo-erotica!
Posture is for liberals.... ;)
Do I sense........
PROJECTION???
I do, I DO!!
I have it copied for future reference whenever the GOP sends out the armies of excusemaking. And will ram it down their throats.
Lets see them turn on each other the way they turned on us.
We're not making a difference, according to them.
Or could it be... Dare I say it...

Where did you the number 10 from? An orifice?
How about 4 things?
Life is sacred. Don't kill babies. Don't support people that kill babies. Shun them.
God gave us the right to keep and bear arms (not just firearms). The Second Amendment acknowledges that and affirms it.
Government needs to be resticted to what is allowed to the government in the Constitution.
Freedom is not negotiable.
You aren't conservative. You are Republican. It shows.
BTW, you aren't winning any votes for your party with your nasty attitude. Talk about circular firing squad.

“Life is sacred. Don’t kill babies. Don’t support people that kill babies. Shun them.”
Any Republican that believes the killing of a baby via abortion is an acceptable payment/exchange for a vote is human garbage and has no place in decent company. Life is sacred. Period.
“God gave us the right to keep and bear arms (not just firearms). The Second Amendment acknowledges that and affirms it.”
The Constitution is a non-negotiable document. Should the states wish to amend it, they may do so to a certain extent. However, as a God Given right, there is no way to strip us of the right to bear arms or of self defense. Any pol or civilian attempting to do so is in clear violation of civil rights doctrine, the constitution and our rights as human beings.
“Government needs to be resticted to what is allowed to the government in the Constitution.”
Anyone disagreeing with such a simple statement is either a Communist or an idiot. The Bill of Rights and the Constitution were designed specifically to protect us from such.
“Freedom is not negotiable.”
