Pelosi: "Not enough" revenue in "fiscal cliff" deal
By Jake Miller
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., argued that additional revenue must be included in upcoming deficit reduction deals, calling the revenue secured by the "fiscal cliff" deal "significant" but "not enough."
"The President had originally said he wanted $1.6 trillion in revenue," she said on "Face the Nation." "He took it down to 1.2 as a compromise in this legislation. We get $620 billion dollars, very significant, high-end tax, changing the high-end tax rate to 39.6 percent, but that is not enough on the revenue side."
Pelosi declined to go into particulars, saying she was "fairly agnostic" about how to secure more revenue, but implied that closing loopholes and deductions was more likely than revisiting tax rates.
"Put it all on the table and see what is working," she said, identifying the carried interest loophole and oil subsidies as two examples of dubious tax expenditures that may be targeted.
Asked if Democrats are ready to significantly reform entitlement programs to address the deficit, Pelosi said, "We already have," pointing to the Affordable Care Act's $716 billion in Medicare provider cuts.
She replied with a quick "no" when asked whether she supports raising the Medicare eligibility age but signaled that she would be open to additional means testing to reduce Medicare payments to wealthy beneficiaries.
She also seemed disinclined to consider any cost of living adjustment that could reduce Social Security benefit payments, saying, "I do not think we should do anything to Social Security that reduces benefits to the beneficiaries." Tossed around during the "fiscal cliff" negotiations was the idea of "chained" CPI, which would have tied the cost of living adjustment for Social Security to the inflation rate. It ultimately was not included in the final deal.

Whatever it is will never be enough.
I just happen to an “alternate address” in her district, so that my e-mails get through.
It’s time!
Yep, tax and spend liberals.
Yep, tax and spend liberals.
There will never be enough revenue when you spend more than you take in.
Typical socialist.
She has to stay there too ~ citizenship goes with the Congressional district.
Now, about taxes, that $600 billion new revenue she's talking about will probably be a MINUS $600 billion loss in revenues.
As she knows the rich (she's one of 'em) hire good tax accountants and tax lawyers to protect themselves from this sort of thing.
Fewer taxpayers are working, that's for sure.
That will raise $4 billion a year (oil + gas) and that's only because all other industries get the same writeoffs so it's not really a subsidy. This shows she is not interested in anything more than demagoguing the issue.
If sand were brain cells, she would be the Sahara.
Anyone notice that from the period beginning about June 2012, we did not hear a peep from this B...h. Since the election, she has been on the airwaves constantly. She is the face of crazy liberalism in the US Congress which needed be kept from public view before the election so as not to remind the public just how insane they are. Of course, the media did a great job doing their mission.
For the next two years, we will be getting a constant diet of her vile. Hopefully it has the same affect as it did in 2010.
“If sand were brain cells, she would be the Sahara.”
Pelosi was very clear, and showed that she understands both sides of the issue. I was quite intrigued as Bob Shaefer drew this out from her.
She made a mistake, and should have shut up before revealing any facts or details. If she is dumb, that was it — not obfuscating and dodging.
Given the choise of Pelosi vs bo, I would go Pelosi.
The debt is too large and impossible to payoff. Nancy can cry that all day to the idiot followers.
Because it is never based on reality or facts. If it were based on facts, they’d have to face the reality that the system is in serious trouble. And they have admit that they have failed.
Right....you have to cut entitlements...
If by bo you mean the president, I don't agree, they are both the same. He is not ignorant of what he is doing and to infer that he is a dupe or mistaken in his approach sadly underestimates what he is doing, considering it accidental.
Pelousy is exactly what you see, she is direct. That is why they kept her out of public view for six months preceding the election. Granted they limited Barry to few open discussions too, not because he cannot utter his agenda correctly, but precisely because he can. His only obfuscations are his use of many words to answer by using “straw men” but the message is the same regardless of the words used by both of them: Wide eyed liberals intent on bringing our 200 year society to their vision.
Sort of makes you wonder if it’s all being stashed in her purse.
If she can be made the face of the Democrat Party, then I think you're right.
