The FBI has released its files on the late "60 Minutes" correspondent Mike Wallace, detailing their scrutiny of a 1970 trip Wallace took to Cuba. There is also an investigation of a threatening letter sent to Wallace in 1977 by a World War II veteran titled "Communist Control of the Press."
The files were dug up from the bureau's records vault and were requested via the Freedom of Information Act. Read the documents here.
Wallace died on April 7, 2012, at the age of 93 and was widely recognized for his aggressive style in television interviews.
In the summer of 1970, Wallace and the late "60 Minutes" creator Don Hewitt traveled to Cuba. The FBI documents detail the luggage and travel information of the two men, but do not provide much other information. At first mention, the documents misspell Hewitt's name.
The documents also include a rambling letter sent to Wallace in 1977, in which the sender claims to "have solid proof that you are a pro-communist anti-America traitor."
An FBI investigation into the letter identified the sender as Donald P. Hale, a disabled World War II veteran and former prisoner of war, according to the files. The U.S. Attorney's office decided against prosecuting Hale for extortion, saying it did not appear to have criminal intent and the face Hale admitted to "emotional problems."

Wasn’t he a depressed, big-time pothead?
CBS, of course, discounts brave citizen Hale as having “emotional problems.” This is what we’ll all have to admit to — or be kept in drugged-stupor — dare we call out the Communists.
Thanks CBS for putting the disabled vet’s name up for ridicule. That really added a lot to the story.
Scum bums.
This is great. Now we know that

America became a little cleaner the day this jerk assumed room temperature.
I’m with Mr Hale.
(people also suck sometimes)
That's what I heard, anyway, from a good source.

LOL.
Ok, I glanced through the 50 page file. A couple of pages 90% redacted reports about his trip to Cuba and the rest were the ramblings of this poor deluded WWII vet.
What a non story.
I think the verb you are looking for is [ ]. And it wasn’t on a beach. It was in a 1952[ ].

I do appreciate the thread. Every time I hear again 'the late Mike Wallace', I just have to smile. Makes my day.

It might have been a lama. FBI grasp of detail wasn’t always what we might have hoped.
Ah we do have fun here.
[do you think the FBI is buying that?]
I still remember that turkey Wallace ambushing Gen. Westmoreland, that should have ended his journalism career.
"...was it my long lashes, or my sexy glance?

lol
