Are you a cop? Do you carry a gun? Don't go to the Denny's in Belleville, Ill.
You are not allowed, the police chief says. Not after what happened Tuesday.
The flapjacks -- sorry, the flap -- began when several on-duty detectives with the Belleville Police Department dropped in to Denny's for some on-duty noshing, according to local media.

The story gets a little less outrageous if you read the story at the link but why get all the facts before you post, when it is more fun to vent.
One Denny’s close to my house has a “no guns” sign. I didn’t notice it until after I had breakfast. I went back in and told the manager that I would no longer eat there. There is another Denny’s just two miles down the same street where I can open carry ... no problem ... I now eat there.
Did the Gestapo make the laws? No, they didn’t.
When the police become the enforcment agents of unconstitutional laws, they have voluntarily decided to become my enemy.
These very police would have no doubt cuffed and perp walked me for carrying openly in that Denny’s.
I have a problem getting my mind around the concept of plain
clothes cops out in public with weapons visible to fellow
Dennys patrons. What would be the point? Must be they removed
sport coats which revealed shoulder holsters. Anyway, seems like
the Dennys mgr tried to correct the problem.
Pancake Summit!
When they put the sign up, I asked my favorite server what had happened. She told me that they’ve never had any real trouble, but, there was this one fella that was minding his own business, enjoying his meal and then someone saw his sidearm.
I asked...”Did he then pull it out and start waving it around, wildly?” “No”, she said, “But everyone could SEE it.”
“So, no one died”
“Yep”
I said good bye and told her that I would see her again when the sign comes down and that Perkin’s was just two blocks away. Also, bad guys don’t pay attention to signs.
I cooked for a daycare center while in college. There was a girl whose father was and undercover police officer in a nearby city. Most of the time he came in street clothes to pick up his kid. Sometime he did carry a gun. One day he showed up in his undercover street thug outfit while carrying a gun and even with the badge scared a couple parents. He did look very scary I had to take a second look to recognize him. I wanted to ask but never had the chance if they had spray on stink or did they had to come up with their own. We had plans made with him that if any showed up to get his child we didn’t know someone was going over the back fence with her.
In Texas every Texas Ranger and non-metroplex Sheriff’s deputy (that is an investigator) would be banned. Their daily uniform consists of western style jeans or pants, a white western styled shirt, and a western holster rig with the badge next to the holster. Sometime a jacket, sometimes not.
Every Ranger I knew ate at Luby’s 3-4 times a week.
Denny’s has never had a finger on the “pulse of nation”, whether Black or White or Whatever”.
Anybody ever mistake an on-duty Texas Ranger for anything but
a Texas Ranger?
God Bless the Texas Rangers but the vast majority of law enforcement
agencies (state or local) are going to have a basic cop or SO uniform
except when working plain clothes. And when that happens most
of them are not going to be too eager to show that they are packing.
Because obviously, if policegestapo quit enforcing certain laws against certain people then that would most certainly cause the government to change......doing so would not cause their jobs to be in jeopardy or anything.
Yea, I see your point.
Does anyone realize that Belleville is right next to East St. Louis?
I don’t suppose they’re going to get the Chick-fil-A crowd. I wouldn’t want to be there when the pancakes run out.
Police Chief William Clay.
I like this guy’s attitude.
An interview with the chief. Interesting read.

Right! Well, except the laws about speeding. Or the laws about DWI. Or, of course, the laws about shooting pet dogs.
But, for the most part, you're absolutely right.
Are Dennys employees permitted to wear their guns when going into the Belleville police station?

Denny’s employees are permitted to take the “tools of THEIR trade” into the Belleville police station - a bottle of ketchup - a pancake spatula - a salt shaker etc.......
Armed patrons who aren't cops would be allowed, because they have a better understanding of firearm safety and probably wouldn't shoot my dog.
And that's why the schools are a popular target for psychos intent on killing a lot of people in a short period of time.
