The Daughters of the American Revolution, one of the nations oldest patriotic organizations, has erased any mention of Jesus Christ in their official book, removed prayers and poems that reference Christian imagery, and directed members to refrain from praying in the name of Christ, an outraged group of members alleged.
The dispute has been brewing for more than a year when DAR members learned that the newly revised Ritual and Missal books the primary guide for chaplains were altered. They noticed that the name of Jesus Christ had been omitted.
The DAR president general did not return calls seeking comment for this story.
The members said DAR leadership made the changes to be politically correct and to accommodate new members of other religious beliefs.
A state chaplain in the organization notified members of their concerns in a newsletter.
The newly updated Missal and Ritual was written to reflect the desire to be considerate of other belief systems, the statement read. The Chaplain General uses scripture from both the Old and New Testaments and prays in the name of God without reference Christ. Chapter and district chaplains need to follow the example set by the National Society.
The statement also reminded members to appreciate the differences in members religious beliefs and to adapt our rituals and prayers to respect these differences.
That directive has infuriated rank and file members of the DAR an organization that is deeply rooted in the Christian faith.

I know what these three believed in, they were Lutherans.
Daughters of the American Revolution. Are they now the Lesbians of the American Revolution?
It's only a matter of time.
What website is that?
In reality the DAR is about a past, and about the American Revolution, and the creation of the nation itself. That's far removed from fluff, but it's more important than the propaganda, and the programs to attract the young.
I'd have to say NO CHANGE. Let me go further, the folks behind this change should be tarred, feathered, and ridden out of town on a rail.
BTW, many of the old patriotic groups used to have a rule that the honored ancestors they were descended from had to be married. When it came to Maryland a researcher demonstrated they'd had something like 70 publicly recorded marriages in the century prior to the Revolution. That didn't prove the folks weren't married, but it wasn't reported.
I think all of them have subsequently changed the marriage rule realizing it couldn't be proven, nor was it necessary ~ a patriot is a patriot no matter what the legal status of his parents.
At the same time the common religious tradition of almost all the patriots and soldiers was Christianity ~ that included the Oneida who served as Scouts with the New York militia, and with the regular continental army as well. We know that because they had Christian names ~
From the DAR website, you can search by name. Hans Jacob (Jacob Sr), the last name listed, was the first of our line in America.
DAR’s website has an ancestor search, to see if your ancestor has been filed on previously.
Wow, thanks. Although they have a lot of great stuff, ancestry.com is crazy expensive.
Gee whiz, I’m always seeing that guy on the same lists ~ and the other guys as well. Bet you come up with William Alexander with some frequency.
Without God and Jesus there’d been no Spaniards, Bretons and Swedes to discover and survey America so when the Pilgrims arrived they might have run into Greenland!
I subscribe to Ancestry, but I understand that the cost is way up there if you don’t use it that much. Have you tried a genealogy library, or a large city library for Ancestry.com. Most will have the Library edition of it.
Glad I never got around to sending in my application.
I'll do some searches on W. Alexander.
I call upon the members of this organization to IMPEACH the officers at the National Level who allowed this to occur .
Don`t bail out of the DAR ..........fix it !
we need Patriots !
The Creator has been summarily thrown out of our schools and recently nearly thrown out of the Democrat Convention...so why not throw him out of the DAR another patriotic organization tied to the early American Patriots and their courageous stand for their new country. I wonder how many of these ladies voted for Obama, a man more in favor of Islam than he is of our Judeo-Christian origins. It is interesting how things work out.........
The members of DAR should come out of the shadows and fight this instead of worrying whether or not they’ll be kicked out of the organization.
How many Daughters of Antichrist Reform can there be?
Judging by the results of the 2012 election, a hell of a lot of them.
Look and see if your guys end up on the same unit rosters as Manuel McConnell or Timothy Murphy ~ bet they do ~ and not just William Alexander but also somewhere under Lafayette, Burr, Jefferson ~ i suspect you've got some folks there a tad more special than you might have imagined ~ also be sure to check for John Murphy with Clark.
