Why does anyone need a mocha latte when a cup of coffee will do. Why does anyone need designer clothes when a t shirt and jeans will do?

And that is why I prefer .45 230grain JHP by Hornady and .308 whatever.

They both make what look like about the same size hole going in as a .223/556 or .38, .40, or 9mm but the hole on the other side makes a huge mess....

Some people need more killin than others.

I think the most obvious answer is multiple perps. It might look bad if I empty 6 shots into a perp and then have to cut his throat. What if i miss 3-4 times? There are many answers. I know in my life I don't feel good hog hunting without 20 rounds minimum. Sometimes they just keep coming. Hitting a moving target that wants to eat you sometimes takes a couple of rounds. Besides, shooting 1 hog when there are 12 just makes you want to fill your freezer more.

Why Does Anybody Need a 30-Round Magazine?

Because the store was out of 40-round magazines.

The classic .38 caliber revolver, with a capacity of six rounds, was the standard sidearm of the United States Army during the Moro insurrection in the Philippines. The Army found at least one dead Army officer with an empty sidearm, and his head split open by a machete or similar weapon. They also found the soldier's killer, who had finally bled to death. Six rounds of .38 were therefore not enough to convince even one determined attacker.

One Vietnam veteran I served with in the Marines was a young private in Vietnam, and one night he was on post at the wire with an older sergeant. All was quiet and the sergeant was dozing. Suddenly a screaming VC guerrilla ran through the wire spraying automatic fire. The private shot him numerous times but it didn't seem to slow the attacker down. This was during the Tet (a Vietnamese holiday time, the lunar new year) and the VC was drugged high as a kite and on a suicide mission with tourniquets tied on all his limbs to prevent bleeding out.

Anyway, the scared private turned to the sergeant and said, "He's still coming at us!" The sergeant calmly took aim with his M-203 (an M-16 with attached grenade launcher) and hit the attacker square in the chest with a grenade. End of attacker.

30 is the largest number such that all co-primes smaller than itself, except for 1, are prime.

None of your goddamn business, that’s the point. You have no right to ban bullets or lightbulbs or toilets that work or plastic bags or PLASTIC BOTTLES like some town in CT just did.

Filthy scum.

[Article] Why does anybody need a high capacity magazine?

He's standing in the middle of a running sounder of feralized hogs averaging 40-50 pounds each, with the big ones running 200 lb? All of which would like to turn him into a colander?

That might be one reason.

(Article) "He had 32 Krag balls through him and was only stopped by the 33rd bullet -- a Colt .45 slug through..."...

Krag was .30-40 caliber (40 grains of propellant) and no slouch in the muzzle-energy sweepstakes; it wasn't much inferior to its 7mm German and .303 British contemporaries (it was other shortcomings of the Krag rifle and round that prompted the Army to migrate to .30-06 and the Springfield rifle).

There is a huge difference, though, in the downrange energy of a .45-caliber slug and a .38 Special.

Not related in the anecdotal evidence is the detail that the Filipino berzerkers were Moslem juramentados, or "sworn ones". They would operate in teams of three: the assailant would bind wet leather thongs around his forehead and let them tighten until he was wild-eyed from the pressure. His confederates would then sneak up on the American stockade with him and, using a tree as a catapult, bend the tree down and shoot him over the palisade with a bolo knife in each hand. He would then flop down on the other side, get up, and with bolo blades whirling, charge the nearest American and hack him to pieces. The Colt .45 ACP round stopped that happy horses**t.
