SILVER SPRING, Md., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- A Maryland 6-year-old was suspended from school for forming the shape of a gun with his hands and saying "pow," a lawyer for his family said.
Robin Ficker said a boy, a student at Roscoe R. Nix Elementary School in Silver Spring, was given a one-day suspension from school with a conference planned for when students returned from winter break for the pretend shooting a week after 20 children and six adults were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., The (Springfield, Va.) Washington Examiner reported Wednesday.
"What they're doing is looking at the worst possible interpretation of a young, naive 6-year-old," Ficker said. "This is a little child who can't form the intent to do anything like that."
Assistant Principal Renee Garraway sent a letter to the boy's parents saying the child had been warned.
"Your son ... was involved in a serious incident," Garraway wrote. "(He) threatened to shoot a student. He was spoken to earlier today about a similar incident."
Ficker said the school has not told the parents what the "similar incident" entailed.
"It just shows the overreaction," the lawyer said.
He said the school should have discussed the issue with the parents before handing down the suspension.
"They could have called the mother in. They didn't do that. They just said, 'You're suspended,'" he said. "Five years from now, when someone in to Montgomery County looks at his permanent record, they're going to see that he threatened to shoot another student."
Those things you mentioned, they are the most precious a man can have.
1. Christ.
2. Oxygen.
3. Water.
4. Food.
5. Gun/ Ammo.
That is my personal list of the most precious things that a man can have. Some may disagree with my ordering, but it has to be that way for me.
I remember they didn’t even let us carry Advil. A kid got his car searched in high school because there were rumors about him having guns, and I think it turned out he had paintball equipment in his truck. I’m surprised they didn’t cuff him on the spot.
Meanwhile the tough crowd brought knives to school at will, and myriad fights broke out in the traditional fashion. But at least law-abiding students couldn’t relieve their own headaches.
There you go again. Is this kind of stupidity inbred, or do they have to work at it.
So, a stabbing motion would be treated the same, a finger across the throat, “Cut”, the middle finger, 2 fingers threatening to poke your eyes, tomahawk chop.
I guess threatening to "blast" someone is okay, though.
This is what our world has come to: Hysterical women and timid men scared to death of EVERYTHING!
Take me back to my youth in the 50’s and 60’s so I can escape Bizarro world and live a normal life once again.
“I guess threatening to “blast” someone is okay, though”.
Brilliant, raybbr! I’m saying that the child learned horrible words like bam, pow, boom and the notorious blast through the school administrator. Hehehehe.
I think obama’s finger gun barrel is longer than the legal limit. But at least he’s a better aim than the gangsta doofus.
To post # 39.....
It is difficult to imagine an America as you described, and yet I lived it too.....Teacher bringing out the paddle when you needed it (and I mean leaving your bottom red) and no uproar from anyone much less your parents (who more often than not gave it to you again if they found out).....Everyone had at least a shotgun, and knew how to use it......I’ve posted it before, it’s like the death of a family member or friend to know you will never experience that America again.....Mr. Reagan knew what he was talking about didn’t he?......Loss of freedom was only a generation away....That generation is upon us.....The godless schools have brain-washed an entire generation to create a secular culture that is completely void of any of the Christian values that the founding fathers knew were necessary to keep America strong and united......
I agree 100%. There was never a better time to grow up than in the 50’s and early 60’s. I pity those who didn’t have that opportunity...
,,,,, let’s see ,,,,,, a total ban on all hand jestures in public seems appropriate dun-cha think Ms. Feinstien ???
You cannot shame people like her. She will go to bed thinking she was right.Other people like her will tell her she was right.
No she will pay no attention to anything else.
By the way Silver Spring is in Montgomery County.
Maryland’s most liberal county.
Same here. Although, in those days we weren't allowed guns in school, either. We actually had to unload them, and leave them in the coat room. In those days, some would have meat for supper only if they shot it on the way home from school.
Nowdays, cowboys and indians is not at all politically correct. Although, I'm told that some places here in Texas still condone cowboys and muslims.
It would be fun to call an assembly at that school and show all the kids this video, and then watch the freakout:

They aren’t going after guns, they’re going after the “gun culture”. They don’ wan’ ya feelin’ too “independent” ya know.
Another typical liberal knee jerk reaction.
In my day of playing cowboy and indians, I would probably have been sentenced to “life without parole” for doing exactly the same thing this kids got punished for.
What the hell has happened to common sense? Obviously common sense is not so common anymore.

Thanks for the suggestion!
The only “toys” found in Cracker Jack today are pieces of paper. Anything else would just be a lawsuit waiting to happen.
