When the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass a Senate bill to avoid the fiscal cliff around 10:45 PM on Tuesday, it violated its pledge to allow three days for the public to read the legislation, a promise House Republicans made to voters before the 2010 elections.
In its Pledge to America document, House Republicans promised: We will ensure that bills are debated and discussed in the public square by publishing the text online for at least three days before coming up for a vote in the House of Representatives. No more hiding legislative language from the minority party, opponents, and the public. Legislation should be understood by all interested parties before it is voted on.

Is there anyone left that believes we have leadership in Washington D.C.? Let’s all just go to Hawaii and party!!!!
I also notice that the fiscal cliff “deadline” drifted from one day to the next.
Well do you expect them to read it during an emergency?
They had to do something!!! Even if they had no idea what
it was.
It wasn’t a bill, it was an amendment to a bill.
So, technically they didn’t break their promise- just defied the intent of the promise.
That’s only because we went over that cliff a long time ago, this was deciding on how fast we hit the ground. like it matters. But at least they can operate for 8 MORE DAYS.
The whole damn fiasco is beyond unprincipled and sickening.
Just remember that it is the leadership that determines when the vote is taken.
At least, this is what I believe.
The members that made that promise are not happy. Just look at how they voted and how angry they are with Boner today.
I hope he will no longer be speaker tomorrow at this time, although that process can drag on for some time.
New boss(bonehead)
Same as old boss (Pelosi)
One thing you can count on from GOPe and the establishment Republicans: to do any desperate thing to stay in power and get re-elected.
Compare to Democrat leaders in Congress, those leading key committees, and Der Leader himself: They remain totally loyal; and committed to their ideology, which is in lock step and anti-American, pro-abottion, pro-Marxist, pro-Gay, anti-gun, anti-individual freedoms, anti-free enterprise system, pro-open borders to unchecked trespassers, including terrorists, ulimited rights for criminals and few for law abiding citizens, anti-state and local control of our lives and pro federal control and UN control of our country and people, etc.
I hope you don’t believe that God will punish them for their sin harsher than you for yours.
General statement pointed to those who know it’s about them.
I recently accepted the fact that nothing they do will stop a significant percentage of ‘conservatives’ from voting for them and calling it a good thing.
Nothing.
Every week brings a new affront to common sense and decency and every week, vocal supporters ride to defend it. In the MSM (interviews and such) and online.
Every cave in brings all new creative excuses. And when they cannot excuse the inexcusable, they fall back on the old timeworn saw, “We have nowhere else to go”.
Fine. Go there and sit silent while your country collapses with your help. Because when your country needed you in whatever small way to stand up for what was right, you chose what was popular.
Live with it. Because the rest of us are forced to.
They had to pass it so we can see what’s in it.
Boehner is a poosy and his faux FU to Reid was just retarded. Only professionals should be allowed to curse, like Cheney.
Boehner you have been emasculated by a bigger sissy than you are a Poosy.
Pathetic you are even allowed to wear pants that button to the right.
You should come out of the closet and show us what your favorite dresses are and prance around in your 4” high heels by Jimmy Choo.
Fag.
My question... there is a GOP? really?
There’s only one penalty for sin, ultimately.
Leaders do have a greater responsibility though, in God’s eyes.
Both the Senate and House had to pass the bill during the night to show how proud they were to pass it. Total cowards.
The GOP is no more Christian than the Democrats.
They don’t care. Their rule simply sounded good after the health care law passed and no one read it. They never intended to follow their own rules. There are no consequences tied to them breaking what they promised and the American public by now won’t care.
That was another “good sound bite” without and substance from the GOP.
Just like Obamacare was to be debated on CNN, per Barry.
Never happened. Nanzi even had the temerity to say that we had to pass it to see what was in it.
After seeing what’s in it even some Demoncrats are hemming and hawing now.
Both were ramrodded through, like some banana republic.
Why even have Congress vote on laws? This won’t end well.
This is not a BFD. After all, the most expensive and stupid bill in history was ramrodded thru after that Commie bitch from SF said “You’ll have to vote on it to read it.”
If someone wanted to divide the Republican Party into two warring factions, this would be a good issue to push.
