House Speaker John Boehner made a U-turn on Wednesday to clear the way for approval of $60 billion in Superstorm Sandy relief by mid-January after drawing withering fire from fellow Republicans, including New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, for canceling an earlier vote.
The Republican-controlled House of Representatives will now vote on Friday on a $9 billion down payment for storm-related aid to the National Flood Insurance program.
Boehner also assured New York and New Jersey lawmakers that the House will take a second vote on January 15 on the $51 billion remainder of the Sandy package.
"This procedure that was laid out is fully acceptable and fully satisfactory. It provides the full $60 billion that we require," said Representative Peter King, a high-ranking House Republican from Long Island, New York.

Wow - a giant pork package.
I’m sure it will easily pass. :D
I hope he strips out the pork.
It’s not his money, why should he care?
The media started on this line of attack first thing this morning and Johnny the Jellyfish reacted exactly as expected.
We need a speaker who isn’t afraid of using the media to our advantage.
can we just name him Weenie?
Just give them the 30 that they need and flush the rest down the bowl. Or maybe he could tell us that is a spending cut.
What a chicken—it. He does not deserve to be speaker of the house. He should have called out Peter King and Chris Christie and shown everyone how much pork was in the bill.He does not know how to take advantage of a crisis-guess he needs lessons from the left.
We need Allen West.
What time are the Republican attacks scheduled?
1. A pork filled dare because of a hurricane, holding cheeldren card just in case
2. Krispy and Zero made promises, then Krispy claimed that Boehner made them
That's about all I need to know about this pork filled shake down of the country.
And where is this bill posted on .GOV, anybody?
Every time I hear the expression, “super storm sandy”, it irritates me a bit.
I don’t doubt that it did a huge amount of damage but that is because the area was vulnerable not because it was a super storm. It was a minimal hurricane and maybe not even a hurricane at all when it hit.
That is far from a super storm.
We need a Calvin Coolidge who had the courage to state the obvious. Government isn’t at fault for natural disasters and government isn’t responsible for them.
well I hope Boner is ousted tomorrow.
I ask you... It snowed today. Why am I not getting aid from the south where they have warm weather? I had to replace my snow shovel and buy salt. Where is my relief?
The traitor Peter King can stuff it were the sun don’t shine. I’m not about to take food from my children so Peter King can enjoy a vacation in Paris.
+1
Why didn’t he ask peter king why he’s OK with diverting more than a half billion dollars to places and projects having nothing t:o do with the hurricane. That is the real outrage. What’s a half billion these days. It’s not their money
