They were against guns before they were for guns. Or in at least one writer’s case, he was a gun owner before he wrote the piece against guns so is he now for or against them?

I don’t think it’s hypocritical, because the journalists, by their actions, have stated that they have no objection to it, so their opinion is on record. Nobody bothered to ask the gun owners.
