U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was lucky that, being the top U.S. diplomat, her medical team had thought to do a follow-up MRI after her concussion last month, medical experts told ABC News on Tuesday.
The doctors said that Clinton's latest health update -- cerebral venous thrombosis -- is a rare and potentially "life-threatening" condition, but one from which the globe-trotting secretary of state is likely to recover from.
In an update from her doctors, Clinton's brain scans revealed a clot had formed in the right transverse venous sinus, and she was being successfully treated with anticoagulants.
"She is lucky being Hillary Clinton and had a follow-up MRI -- lucky that her team thought to do it," Dr. Brian D. Greenwald, medical director at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Center for Head Injuries, told ABC News. "It could have potentially serious complications."
The backup of blood flow could have caused a stroke or hemorrhage, according to Greenwald.

You mean partisan Republicans, demanding that poor little Hillary should testify in her condition. Hang your heads in shame, and rip up that subpoena.
Started out a Goldwater girl, opened her legs and mouth to BJ, married him and ended up a dividing enemy of America.
Yes, I really DID see that in the italicized citation.
> Let this be a warning to you, woman. You keep your mouth shut, or I’ll have my spooks give you another ‘blood clot’.
Or get poked in the foot by a poison tipped umbrella...lol
I wouldn’t put it past 0 using blackops to take out targets that might testify about his ineptness on BenghaziGate including his own staff. Nothings beneath him except the bones of conservatives he’s crushed...
Why do I have doubts about this entire event?
Maybe picked up a littler dose of polonium? Russian style.
So what was her immediate treatment and diagnosis after the plane incident in Iran? Did anyone translate the Iranian doctor’s report yet?
"...she got hit between the eye's with a cork from a cheap champagne Bubba had hidden for some floozy he has on the side"
Yeah and a hang nail could lead to a fatal infection. Hillary’s blod clot is a convenient diversion and she will never testify before Congress about the Benghazi fiasco.
Either that or bubba suggest she take a fall and fake a concussion. The result of unexpected consequences.
In other words, right-side, upper-middle of the scan:
So, was it the anti-Christ who survives a head wound?
Doonesberry used to have a character called Ron Headwound.
The title should read:
Experts: Clinton’s Condition Could Have Been “Real”.
Actually, it's my understanding that it was quite serious. It has completely destroyed the Benghazi region of her brain.
If true this is a very serious condition. I have a family member who suffered from this. The symptoms mimic a stroke. Plus he had lots of complications from the medication that was used to treat it.
Benghazi-itis is scary stuff.
Just as an aside, anticoagulants are peculiar critters.
It the case of a dangerous blood clot like this, they are briefly given enoxaparin sodium, marketed under the trade names Lovenox, Xaparin and Clexane, among others. It is dangerous stuff and its use is typically limited to no more than five days. However, it basically halts any further blood clotting that could fully block or cause an artery to rupture.
It is far too dangerous to try and artificially dissolve a blood clot, as it could break off in pieces and go to the heart or brain, causing a heart attack or stroke. So the anticoagulant drugs just limit further clotting, to let the body dissolve the clot naturally.
After the Lovenox treatment, patients are then moved to a different anticoagulant called Coumadin (Warfarin). It is far less dramatic than Lovenox, but because it can only work in a very limited blood serum range, they have to be tested on a weekly basis until their Coumadin dosage levels stabilize.
It does leave them more prone to bleeding and bruising, but it is so common that there are entire clinics devoted to Coumadin therapy, with a very standardized ritual of questions they ask patients when they see them. They are monitored with a device that looks like a diabetes monitor, but costs a whole heck of a lot more.
