Fiscal Cliff Deal: Obama Takes Less In Revenue In Exchange For Destroying The GOP

It's hard to rundown all the spending/tax hike ramifications since they passed the damn thing at 2am on New Years Day but the politics of the deal are quite clear.

WH tells colleague Ed Henry Obama broke R's tax pledge. Calls it "1 of the most consequential policy achievements of the last couple decades And what did the GOP get for this? Nothing.

I doubt the House GOP has the stones to decline this invitation to sign their own death warrant.

But don't worry guys...we'll get those spending cuts in the debt ceiling deal! This was the key surrender that will catapult us to victory!

The GOP is DONE. One cannot be a political party and be indistinguishable from the opposition.

Obama will gloat, and the press will rejoice, stating over and over taht the GOP now knows tax cuts do not work and have joined in agreeing with him and the Democrats that only Taxing and Spending works.

All we've heard about since the election is about this stupid "fiscal cliff" of the news media. the news media came up with that "fiscal cliff" bs to destroy the GOP.

The U.S.A. is a dictatorship and the dictators are the socialist news media.

There is no cliff but the media has everyone talking about it and even Congressmen believing if they don't make a deal to raise taxes then the country will go over some cliff . Pure lies we supposedly went over the cliff at midnight and what happened NOTHING.

It is time for the pheonix to rise out of the flames. We tried it and it worked in the 2010 elections. These two parties will be the death of us

Oslama played no part in the destruction of the GOP.

A self inflicted demise.

I'm done! I'm changing my party affiliation to Independent! Oh, BTW, a huge thank you to Mark Levin for helping to push Orrin Hatch on the Utah voters with his endorsement! Thanks for helping to hurt Hatch’s conservative opposition!

Taxes went up across the board this morning at 12:00 a.m.

The Republicans are now voting to cut taxes.

Then the Tea Party replaces the Republicans like the Republicans replaced the Whigs.

We went over “the cliff” years ago when the American people decided Socialism and big government (The Great Society) was the way we wanted to go...

We’ve been in free fall since, and now just waiting to see how soon and how hard we hit the rocks below...

They’ll keep spending, redistributing, monetizing the debt and killing the dollar (if it’s not almost dead now, until the wealth is all gone and there’s nobody left to tax...

Soon, I think...Thanks for the valiant stand, GOP!

I often wonder who hates the Republican Party more. Is it people on Free Republic, or is it the people work for Obama?

sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference... in my opinion, conservatives are in the same position they were 4 years ago.

they need to get a hold of the party and change it, not abandon it.

Ronald Reagan was in the minority in his party for many years. But he didn’t stomp away.

Yep, the nation was destroyed from within, and the Republican elites helped, they will know God’s wrath, the fires of hell are kept warm with traitors.

The GOP is DONE. One cannot be a political party and be indistinguishable from the opposition.

The nomination of Romney -- Romney! -- assured us that the GOP wants nothing more than to be like the Democratic party... especially given how they pushed him forward with dirty tricks. The retroactive rule-changes to steal primary delegates from Ron Paul (whose supporters successfully 'rule-lawyered' a share of them), the changes of rules at the convention to ensure Romney votes (the 'ayes have it' appearing on the teleprompter before the vote finished), the denial of seating delegates, the 'bus-incident' which circled the convention three times refusing to deliver the delegates from one state (VA, IIRC)...

You're right they are indistinguishable -- the Democrats did the same sort of stuff with ObamaCare.

The GOP has destroyed itself.

But my question is, outside of Ronald Reagan a former democrat, did the GOP ever even exist at all?

I say that it did not.

The GOP is now voting for the Obama Tax Cuts. Do you want to give them a medal for that?

"... in my opinion, conservatives are in the same position they were 4 years ago. they need to get a hold of the party and change it, not abandon it."

I agree with Reagan's idea in 1976 that what we need is not a third party, but a new Republican party... but when you have Conservatives living in a constant state of fear that they will be politically punished by their own party for daring to speak out against this nonsense, what are people supposed to do? From the minute that the GOP House regained control in Nov. 2010, the leadership sought to minimize the Tea Party influence- and for what? To rally around timid, inarticulate, boring leaders who continue to break their pledges?

What was the practical result of the 2010 elections?

Yep, that's the ugly irony here. Obama is going to wind up signing the largest tax cut in history.

This whole thing hasn't been handled very well.

Who hates the republican party more?

The answer is the the republican party itself.

It is not who it says it is and it never was.

The only thing that it ever was was lies.

The Democrat’s War Goal is TO WIN ELECTIONS. Everything else, for the leaders of this party, is secondary. And you have to understand the Democrat Leader’s personal goals. Is Harry Reid’s personal goal to be a happy member of Collective Pig Farm #23? Is Nancy Pelosi’s personal goal to be a member of Street Sweeping Team #47? How about even that most feared of Marxists, Obama? Is his personal goal to be a member of the Great Shoe Factory #78? Come on people, it’s time to wake up. The leaders of the Democrat party are in politics to enrich themselves, their families and friends. They have to win elections to continue to be where they can get their dirty paws into the public treasury. They are as socialist as Bill Gates. We can’t keep developing political strategies to defeat socialists, because the leaders of the Democrat party aren’t socialists. We need to adjust our strategies to defeat a bunch of Shills, pickpockets, thieves.

“Understand yourself and understand your opponents, and in one hundred battles, you will not be defeated.”
