Wasn’t there a black Miss America?
There are more whites in SA than there are blacks in America (as a percentage).
What’s the problem?
Melinda Bam is white because she is an Afrikaner, or Dutch-African (although German and French South Africans are also Afrikaners). The Dutch began arriving in South Africa in the 16th century, soon after blacks began arriving in the U.S. They are as African as blacks are American.
Because she advanced in the Miss Universe contest, she will not represent her country in the Miss World contest. Her first princess, Remona Moodley, an Indian South Africa, will be the country’s representative.
Her second princess, Thuli Sangweni, is a black South African. She also was named Miss Congeniality.
My daughter’s college biology professor was white as was her entire family. They were all from South Africa.
It’s just a pigment of our imagination.
Why was it jarring? There ARE lots of white folks in South Africa, after all.
Her parents are white? That aside, an American couple of Scottish ancestry were stationed in South Africa when the fraternal twin children were born. Classic red haired, blue eyed Scots. At college they tried to join an African American club on campus. They were the only authentic African Americans in the room. The rest were black Americans with possible distant African ancestry. They were rejected for insufficient melanin.

Seems no one complains when the US has a non white win beauty contests. You have to be major White Guilt Liberal to whine when a white girl represents So. Africa in a beauty pageant
I didn’t realize there was a racial requirement. Seems racist to question her race. Is she in any way unqualified? Seems more than attractive enough to have a shot at winning. Id think anyone would be happy to have her representing their country.
Maybe cause South Africa wants to WIN rather than be PC with some Watusi.
Actually, South Africa was originally populated by whites. When the British first colonized the area, it was uninhabited. They were the original settlers.
