This gun lover carries a badge.
Port Authority cop Jeffrey Haner was busted on possession of two illegal assault weapons, including the same type of Bushmaster rifle used in the Newtown massacre, authorities said.
Ramsey, NJ, police said they took a total of 10 weapons from Haner after his wife asked for a temporary restraining order.
The 41-year-old cop, who works at the George Washington Bridge and made $175,000 last year, also had eight legal guns, including two handguns, Ramsey police said.
But Haners .223-caliber Bushmaster and Chinese-made Norinco rifle were fitted with accessories including flash suppressors that made them illegal assault weapons under New Jersey law, police said.
He was charged on Dec. 21 with two counts of possessing an assault weapon without a permit, police said. The maximum penalty for each charge is five years in prison.

I've never heard about any trouble with that bridge. Sounds like money well spent; he's earned it.
I think the real weapon was the gay liberal empowerment to “punch babies” and avoiding responsability.
lol...
Being the ME, he had access to all bodies prior to, and being prepped for autopsy, and full supervision of all procedures on children/adults. .223/5.56 make very distinctive entry/exit and internal wounds, compared to handguns and shotguns. He did seem to be a “quirky” kind of guy, if you watch his presser. I cringed a couple times at his answers and jokes.
Removing the adjustable stock and grip would have made the gun friendly.
Right out of the gate they’re looking for a Tea Party type or a Conservative who listens to Rush Limbaugh.
Silencers should be mandatory.
There are a bunch of ‘cops’ like this. The ones that are politically connected and get all the bumps and perks.
I was a Sgt in a major city PD for a long time; only for a few years broke 100K.
These are the guys that show up after the shooting is over and strut around in their gear and show how tough they are. And, who do nothing on the city’s dime except train for free. If I went to the range I had to pay.
Meanwhile, grunt cops like myself were expected to walk nightly into perpetual BS with mininal training and minimal backup.
There is a real distinction these days in law enforcement agencies between the grunts and the praetorians.
sheet
they can’t even report the thing right.
What about the guy in the woods and the other guy on the ground the kid saw?
he is a port authority cap and he makes $175,000 dollars a year????????????????????????????
They said....civilians reported seeing a man in the woods who they thought had a gun. The police found him...identified him as a birder...looking for “his bird”. He did not have the gun the civilians thought they saw.
Never trust a pissed off woman.
.44 magnum muzzle energy: 1650ft·lbs
.223 muzzle energy: 1300ft·lbs
Actual values may vary depending on barrel length and bullet weight, but the .223 is a rifle round with less muzzle energy than a large caliber pistol.
In comparison, the .308 Winchester muzzle energy is about 2700ft·lbs, and the .338 Lapua Magnum approaches 5000ft·lbs (again depending on bullet weight, powder load, and barrel length). For extreme sports enthusiasts, the Barrett M82 chambered in .50 Caliber BMG (800 grain) has a muzzle energy over 14,000ft·lbs.
“Newtown” style assault weapon??
Are we really going to let the media do this labeling stuff?
In WA state, along with many other states, it is illegal to hunt deer with .223 as it is considered inhumane.
Clarification:
In WA state, along with many other states, it is illegal to hunt deer with .223 as it is considered an inhumane and unethical kill.
Thanks, I know.
I have shot guns encompassing all of those calibers and am familiar with ballistics.
What I am tired of is if a talking head says that a .50 BMG is a mouse caliber there are FReepers who have never shot a gun that would parrot what the idiot MSM says and argue with FReepers who have been actively shooting for 50 years.
That is what bothers me and this isn’t pointed at you.
“...was not done with a handgun.”
Has anyone actually seen a photo of the weapon in question? As I recall, Bushmaster makes or used to make, a .223 pistol based on the AR-15 action: no stock, short barrel, no foreend, took AR-15 magazines.
I am starting to think that Texas may be better off not being in the same country as NY, NJ, MA, CT, CA, etc.
“The children all had from three to eleven wounds per...”
The ME prefaced this by saying: Of the seven victims I have examined...
Others examined the other victims. So we don’t know how many wounds they had. But 7 of 20 bodies would represent a pretty good statistical sample.
Question I have: What is his definition of a wound? Would one entrance and one exit count as two wounds? So 3 to 11 wounds could range from 2 shots to 6 shots to 11 shots per victim.
So I am still awaiting more details.
But the children were killed with .223 (Bushmaster), gun in trunk was shotgun. One shot from 10mm Glock suicide.
