Former Newsweek editor Evan Thomas made a bizarre statement on PBS's Inside Washington Friday.
"Unexplored story of the year: white men dropping out - dropping out of the workforce, dropping out of elections, just plain dropping out, getting social security, not doing anything, going hunting, fishing, just not in the game" (video follows with transcript and commentary, file photo):

Might have changed since Feb. ‘08. All I had to do was make out a check to myself to get the cash. The bank wasn’t too happy since I didn’t give them prior notice, but that was the only problem. Whether the bank notified the gov’t. or not, I have no idea. I kept the final statement on that acct. (showing the withdrawal) in case I ever have to show where the cash came from if I have to use it in a $10K + transaction.
3rd place World Doubles Masters division 1994.
2nd place World Doubles Grand Masters division in 2004.
4 surgery’s on my shoulders and knees going south has eneded the tourny play but I still play local. We have a 36 hole course here with concrete T-pads. I love it when the young guns show up and this 62 year old man can still throw some 450 and 475ft drives. I just smile and take their money.
Not as flat bellied as I used to be but I still take the young guns money on a regulat basis.
I’m with you MattinNJ. My husband and I started the same transition. Picked up a cheap fixer upper in beautiful Lee County in SW Florida. Dropping out of the NYC rat race. Hope to be down there permanently this time next year. Sick of commuting and high taxes. $15 to cross a lousy bridge? Almost $1,000 for two people to commute to NYC every day? We’re. So done.
Awesome! I have to build my nut up a little more because I don’t want my boy to have school debt, but I cannot wait to get out of here. I am looking for 2 bedroom near college (hospital) town in quiet warm part of country. I want a minimalist lifestyle and want to walk on the beach or on the grass with the warm sun on me. I have had a nice career and helped a lot of people but I am done. I wish you the very best and may you have a nice long time enjoying the good life without everyone living off your taxes.
