The phones at Reds Trading Post wouldnt stop ringing. Would-be customers from as far away as New York wanted to know if the Twin Falls, Idaho gun shop had firearms in stock. Others clamored to find out if their orders had been shipped.
Overwhelmed, gun store manager Ryan Horsley had to do what no employee would ever think of doing just days before Christmas: He disconnected the phone lines for three whole days.
The phones at gun shops across the country are ringing off the hook. Demand for firearms, ammunition and bulletproof gear has surged since the Dec. 14 massacre in Newtown, Conn., that took the lives of 20 schoolchildren and six teachers and administrators. The shooting sparked calls for tighter gun control measures, especially for military-style assault weapons like the ones used in Newtown and in the Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooting earlier this year. The prospect of a possible weapons ban has sent gun enthusiasts into a panic and sparked a frenzy of buying at stores and gun dealers nationwide.
Assault rifles are sold out across the country. Rounds of .223 bullets, like those used in the AR-15 type Bushmaster rifle used in Newtown, are scarce. Stores are struggling to restock their shelves. Gun and ammunition makers are telling retailers they will have to wait months to get more.

More jobs in gun stores, more jobs in gun manufacturing & ammo & related supplies and transportation of same. All pluses.
Forgot to add, a better armed populace, the better able to fight gov tyranny, such as real gun grabs.
Leave it to the AP drama queens to describe gun purchasers as "frenzied buyers".
What a BS story. It makes it sound like people can buy guns and “assault rifles” specifically by phone or over the internet. It fundamentally ignores the basics of gun laws that require all interstate sales and most intrastate sales to go between federal firearms licensed dealers with background checks for all purchasers.
This is the weasel words that caught my eye.
Like it's only the 'gun nuts' that are out there buying all of this weaponry.
It's EVERYBODY! But that would do their lefty story much good I guess.
And "fearful."
No, not everybody, just the concerned and intelligent, which eliminates liberals.
We are now Slaves of a Tyrannical Government in the former United States of America. A Tyrannical Government that is supported by a majority of our Countrymen who are either too stupid to breathe or complicit in deceit.
Rounds of bullets? I wonder which "expert" came up with that one. These are the people who want to write our laws.
If you buy a round of bullets, a round of cases, a round of primers and a round of gunpowder eventually you might end up with a round of cartridges. Or somethin’. lol
you got it! This must be O’s secret jobs program!?
“Fearful of ban, frenzied buyers swarm gun stores”
Oh, please....
Correct! I stand corrected!
I have access to quite a few firearm forums and as lately they are jammed with private sales of mags and ammo. Of course many are making one heck of a profit selling even smaller capacity mags and also some really cheap ammo at higher prices.
But what is happening is that its like throwing confetti out of a ten story building, everyone gets hit with it. Many more people are not just quitting when they see empty store shelves, no they are buying privately, there is no more record keeping, no paper trails, even firearms are being sold privately with a dead end registration.
people are wising up and ending any connection of ownership, more people than ever are more so armed than anyone could calculate. Doesn’t matter if a nationwide ban occurs overnight, the guns are gone behind the individual blades of grass.
What's wrong with that? I got a box with 25 rounds of 12 ga bullets for my fully automatic pump action AK-45 assault pistol, and I'll bet there's not another gun shop in the country that has those bullets in stock. [Note: I'm thinking of a second career in journalism. I'd say that sentence alone qualities me!]
If it weren’t for the Second Amendment we would already be slaves. The tyrants would have made their move decades ago.
In the mind of every politician and enforcers of the law is the picture of several million Americans with the ability to shoot the eye out of a gnat at 400 yards. This keeps them mostly rational.
Back when I was in jr. highschool, english teacher assigned our class to write a “newspaper article.”
We got a detailed lesson on denotative language versus connotative and were told points off for using connotative anywhere; only denotative language was allowed.
The posted article from AP would have gotten a grade of “F” in my jr. highschool english class. THAT is what journ-O-lists have come to. That is pathetic.
It ain’t exactly the BAN that they’re worried about....
