A 'gentle, well-respected' organist has died after being subjected to a brutal attack that left him with horrific head injuries.
Grandfather Alan Greaves, 68, was on his way to Midnight Mass at St Saviour's CoE church in High Green, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, on Christmas Eve when he was set upon. He was found by a pizza delivery worker collapsed on the pavement outside a primary school just 300 metres from the church.
He was rushed to hospital with severe head injuries and underwent a four-hour emergency operation but has since passed away.
'He was a good man and this was an evil act,' said Canon Bessant. 'He was a gentle soul. He wasn't foolish - he would have handled the situation as best as anyone would but we don't know what he encountered.'
'His wife wants justice but she doesn't want vengeance. She is not embittered but obviously she wants this person to be caught.' ..

Nope. No Brit ever said it was or would. When you finished that strawman, perhaps you could use whats left and burn Edward Woodward.

I’m usually not this direct or crude but that is complete and utter horsesh*t.
Read ANY of the comment sections at the Telegraph, Daily Mail or anywhere else (the Guardian if you can stand it) and there are countless posts FROM BRITS about how wonderful the British Isles are without all those icky guns.
No need for strawmen when quoting directly from Britons.
People may think its still a safe country, a country that is safer than the US, but they arent blind to its violence.
You are making the error of seeing them say its a safe country means they think its a violence free utopia. Believe me, everyone of all sides, everyone in the UK KNOWS its more violent than it was 20,30, 50 years ago.
Also a lot of the ‘pro-UK’ comments are usually made in regards to a US violence story, like the recent shootings. Brits on these pages tend to post how grateful they feel that as violent as the UK seems, it also seems much less violent when compared to the US. I read the Daily mail, Telegraph etcd online. I even post on the DM site.
I think its a great and overall a safe country to live in, but I know as well that there is violence and violent people and areas.
Yeah, well, they'd be wrong.
I have lived in both.
And I believe the UK to be safer.
I'm sure in England, just as in the US, it matters greatly where you are.
And the US is a very big place, with huge swaths of it that are as safe as any place on Earth.
1—The reason for the UK’s high figure have been discussed here many times. Its the high number of violent offences on the statute books (28) that cause the figures to be so high. Many UK crimes of violence arent classed as such in other countries.
2—True, but then I am in Scotland. LOL.
3—Very true.
And while we're explaining things, a significant portion of the part of violent crime that is much higher in the US, criminal homicide, is attributable to the Mexican/S American drug trade, and where that hits the streets with inner-city drug gangs.
Much of that is confined to active participants in that industry, and is relatively invisible to law-abiding citizens.
RIP.
I have a suggestion, sir: stay in Scotland. Live in your fantasy world and hope like hell that none of your UK "youts" don't beat the crap out of you. I'll live here in the dreaded USA and take a chance that I can use a firearm to stop any thugs that intend to do harm to me. Too bad about you.
UK is in dire need of the death penalty along with judges and juries who will apply it.
I will.
And of the youts tried to beat me in 2008 and got the wrong end of the result. BTW, I will also use my legally owned rifle and shotgun to defend myself.
Why do Americans think every crime in the UK now is done by Muslims?.
If recent beatings of church people is anything to go by, it will be a white or black youth or a nutter with a grudge against the church.
