Above the Law? Howard Kurtz Scolds D.C. Police for Investigating NBC's David Gregory

Howard Kurtz of The Daily Beast has some tough talk for the D.C. Police investigating NBC's David Gregory. In an interview with the NRA's Wayne LaPierre on Sunday's Meet the Press, Gregory had produced an high capacity magazine on-air in violation of D.C. gun laws, thus attracting a police investigation.
Kurtz lamely implied that although Gregory broke the law, he shouldn't be prosecuted for it. "But the D.C. Police Department apparently has nothing better to do than examine whether he violated the citys gun laws," Kurtz scoffed in his column at the Daily Download.
Gregory clearly broke the law. Should journalists be above the law? Kurtz thinks Gregory shouldn't be prosecuted:
"The late word that NBC requested, and failed to receive, permission from the police certainly complicates the matter. But I dont think Gregory was planning to commit any crimes," argues Kurtz.

I wonder if he thinks Lt. Augustine Kim was planning to commit any crimes. He probably doesn’t even know the name.

They definitely would have fried la Pierre’s butt if he had brought the magazine onto the program, and Gregory would have called for his prosecution...I wonder if la Pierre carries while he is in DC.

Has Gregory turned over the magazine to the DC Police? If not is SWAT preparing to raid his office to get this evil device off the street?
To: chessplayer
So Kurtz admits that Gregory broke the law and all we hear from the DC Police is {{crickets}}.

But I dont think Gregory was planning to commit any crimes," argues Kurtz.
just possessing that magazine IS a committed crime in D.C.

"But I dont think Gregory was planning to commit any crimes," argues Kurtz." Hey - "Numbnutz" Kurtz:
Gregory committed the crime [misdemeanor] when he displayed the magazine. Simple possession of the device within the District of Columbia is an offense.

Of course the media is above the law.. They’re just an extension of the 0bama regime, right?

If D.C. police dont go after Gregory, they end up with a black eye. The law is stupid, but should apply equally for all.Nope. It should apply with GREATER strength to libs and hoplophobes that want to so quickly sell us down the river of gun-law tyranny, so they have no excuse. They own it, they get no passes, but the same can't be said of the good guys. We never bought into it in the first place.

"But the D.C. Police Department apparently has nothing better to do than examine whether he violated the citys gun laws," Kurtz scoffed in his column at the Daily Download. That is a decidedly racist statement, Mr. Kurtz. Gregory is white, and the vast majority of work the Metropolitan Police have to do involves African Americans.
Tsk, tsk.
To: chessplayer
If I went into Washington DC with a pick up truck load of high cap magazines and started handing them out to anyone claiming to be a journalist, I'm sure the DC Police would be OK with that. I'd be an investigative journalist trying to determine the effect of high capacity magazine possession on other journalists.
Sure, technically I broke the law, but I didn't intend to commit a crime.

"But I dont think Gregory was planning to commit any crimes," argues Kurtz. Neither are all the legal gun owners.

David
'I Speak French' Gregory should be arrested by the D.C. PD and charged with Three Counts:
- Possession of an illegal high capacity firearm magazine.
- Transportation of an illegal firearm magazine into the District of Columbia.
- Disorderly Conduct: Being pompous and sanctimonious on National TV
- Speaking French in public thereby creating a Public Nuisance.
(Legal def: is offensive to the senses)
Oops, make that Four Counts.
