No Fiscal Cliff Deal Could Cause Jails To Release Inmates

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A scenario that police in western Oregon feared came true in the thick of holiday season after two dozen inmates were freed from a county jail that could no longer afford to hold them.

Less than an hour after one low-level offender walked out, authorities say, he was demanding that a bank teller hand over money.

In a time of budget cuts, cases where inmates get out of jail with little punishment only to commit more serious crimes shortly after their release have become all too common, authorities say.

Many in law enforcement predicted this would happen, and it could get worse if the nation goes over the so-called fiscal cliff.

Is it any wonder civilized people are stocking up on guns and ammo?

“Merry Cliffmas!”

Stupidity is the Liberal way.

Why not lay off some of the useless staff that are friends and contributors and political appointees, instead of exposing the public to criminals?

Why? Because it's for EFFECT, NOT because of a shortage that can't be handled without risk.

0bamaCare should include a couple of lead implants to be power inserted into the brains of the incorrigible.

Think of the savings to gov't and society.

How would the death penalty have any bearing on this story?

As usual, when the government leeches are threatened by budget cuts, they warm that police and firemen will be laid off, or in this case, violent prisoners will be set free. Why not fire the hordes of “non-essential” paper pushers that take off during a snow storm instead? No one misses them....which is why that threat is never made.

Liberals want to lock people up, not execute them. They constantly whine that keeping murderers behind bars is more humane and cost effective. But now they are threatening to release convicts into the streets.

With less and less people working in the private sector, surely there is a surplus of IRS agents who could be dismissed with no great loss.

Instead of releasing these low level offenders, perhaps we should shoot them instead. The odds are that would lead to some real, long term savings to society.

There’s the entire staff of the EPA and Dept. of Education, that could be sent home tomorrow, with only positive results.

So, this type of legislative blackmail is crap, and the perps ought to be FIRED as well!

Let’s face it, the Federal government actions do NOTHING to “protect the environment” or “educate” ANYONE!

In a time of budget cuts, cases where inmates get out of jail with little punishment only to commit more serious crimes shortly after their release have become all too common, authorities say.

The primary responsibility of the federal government is national security. Similarly, the primary responsibility of local government is public safety.

Ergo, fire, police and jail budgets are the last that should be cut.

Obviously, Lane County, Oregon -- a notoriously liberal county -- has a different set of priorities.

Why don't they keep all the employees and just reduce their salaries by 5 or 10 percent?

They won't do that because releasing prisoners is their way of extorting more "revenue" from the taxpayers.

What on earth does a county jail have to do with funding of the federal behemoth?

Maybe we should drop the focus on malum prohibidum crimes, and focus on those crimes where individual rights are violated.

Release them and put the real criminals, Obama, Holder, Pelosi, and Reid, where they belong.

Running out of other peoples money might cause criminals to be free, but I am sure it will not cause pay reductions in the Goobermint that frees them.

After all, the goobermint does have its priorities.

Besides, goobermint officials can empathize easily with criminals these days.
