Is it possible to be both thin and jolly? Yeah, thin and happy...but jolly?

Leave it to the kids and soon Santa will be “looking like a fool with his pants on the ground.”

Santa is a Lapp creation/tradition. As long as he has a gigantic beard he can be rail thin but rail thin doesn't work well in the arctic.

Get rid of Santa Claus and enshrine the Victoria’s Secrets Angels.

"Santa" wasn't ever a big fat guy until that fateful Coca-Cola ad

Well, Clement Moore wrote "He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf" with "a little round belly, That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly" in 1822, some 64 years before Coke was created. 'Course Moore's Santa was dressed in furs from his heed to his foot, and, oh, he smoked!

But you're right. Coke did solidify our image of Santa.

Good grief.
Santa needs to be fat in order to survive living and working at the North pole. It’s called survival insulation. If he had his gift factory in Florida then I’d expect him to be skinny and wearing speedos.

Historically Santa entered homes through chimneys. Not many of those around. Soon Santa will be fazed out.

BTW, we do have a skinny black gay santa. 1600...

Thomas Nast first drew Santa for the 1862 Harper's Weekly cover. That's a considerable time before the Coca Cola Santa ever began.
