Russia is enduring its harshest winter in over 70 years, with temperatures plunging as low as -50 degrees Celsius. Dozens of people have already died, and almost 150 have been hospitalized. The country has not witnessed such a long cold spell since 1938, meteorologists said, with temperatures 10 to 15 degrees lower than the seasonal norm all over Russia. Across the country, 45 people have died due to the cold, and 266 have been taken to hospitals. In total, 542 people were injured due to the freezing temperatures, RIA Novosti reported. The Moscow region saw temperatures of -17 to -18 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, and the record cold temperatures are expected to linger for at least three more days. Thermometers in Siberia touched -50 degrees Celsius, which is also abnormal for December.

So, what should this time for the planet be called?
The New Maunder Minimum is pretty mundane, with no imagination to it.
The vitriol I have for its biggest proponent could be the source of many names... but should we elevate him so? This thing could last the next 100 years potentially, why give him any recognition at all?
How about The Great ManBearPig Minimum?
So much for global warming.
We are seeing more and more of this happening in this country too as the country moves down the path towards a communist nanny state. People just don’t know how to take care of themselves and survive. They have become dependent on the government doing everything for them.
Either the Russian weather service is lying or USA libtards are lying. I tend to believe Russians over libtards
I’ve been seeing a lot of pics of some pretty extreme winter out of europe for the last few days as well.
Last year, Russia had a record COLD winter, while we had a relatively warm one. This year, Russia is having an even COLDER winter - the warmer/colder weather just shifts around the GLOBE, doesn’t stay the same in the same place year after year. It’s not GLOBAL warming. It’s regional shifts that shift back and forth in patterns. But you don’t see too much media coverage of the inconvenient ‘record cold’ spots.
These cold shifts will get back to us one winter soon. I do not look forward to it.
Warm globally, cool locally!!!
LOL!
There’s a draft coming through one of my basement windows and it’s making it too cold to watch TV down there. I’ve been waiting for the government to come fix it for three weeks now and my patience is coming to an end.
The coldest I’ve ever experienced was -10F. I can’t imagine -58F (-50C). That’s gotta be brutal!
God’s punishment for 70 years of Communism.
More vodka to keep warm!
I lived in Canada’s far north for decades. Every year, several people would freeze to death. While booze was often a factor, sometimes a minor inconvenience (e.g. your car is stuck in a snow bank) would prove fatal. There is cold weather, and then there is anything below -45* F. I have worked outdoors at those temperatures, and without the best clothing it can be miserable. I still have a pair of boots rated for -60* F (not much call for them here, in the south). I suffered a lot of frost-bitten toes, before I finally got those boots.
There’s a lot more to fear from an ice age, than there is from global warming. (Admittedly, I might feel differently, if I lived in, say, Arizona.)
I guess they ran the Russian “woodpecker” too long. The US has the HAARP and Russian weather machine is call ed the Russian Woodpecker by ham radio operators.
“So, what should this time for the planet be called?”
Goin’ out on a limb here...
Winter?
Not -58F, but I have experienced -40F actual (not wind chill) growing up in the Berkshires. At -40F the air, thankfully, was dead still; not a hint of a breeze. Even dressed for Winter, you can feel the outline of your lungs with every breath, and ice crystals form when you exhale. The snow underfoot makes an incredibly loud squeaky crunching sound as you walk over it. Normally, snow melts lightly as you walk on it, softening your footfall, but at -40, it makes a racket! Needless to say, I didn't stay outside very long at this temperature.
