There are a few who would do as you suggest. I think, actually I know my late Father would have met them on the porch with his .45 in his hand and shot it out with them.

I have seen him do some crazy things and he somehow always got away with it. I am not sure if it was just his nature or if the fact that he had been in combat during WWII changed him. Whatever it was he was not afraid of anything.

I take more after my Mother who was a kind and gentle soul. About as mild mannered and cooperative as a person gets. On the other hand she is a descendant of Scottish Warriors, one of whom killed a famous man. I have seen that fierce side of her come out a couple of times. Once when we were walking to the house through woods after hoeing a cotton field. She had us climb trees while she fought off that hog with nothing but a goose neck hoe.

Another time they were robbed by a man in Atlanta at pistol point. Mother simply told him she was not going to give him her hard earned money. Daddy had to tell her to give it to him. Even then she told him she needed to keep her credit cards and he let her keep them.

Your mom sounds exactly like mine. That woman could write a check ten times bigger than her ass could cash. When I was a kid, even the men on our block knew better than to tangle with her, and the local kids were completely terrified of her.

She was a petite little thing, but had a mouth and an attitude that could make the toughest guys back down. Unfortunately, out of her seven kids, I was most like her, and she and I have been tangling for almost 60 years .. LOL

I'vw heard the story that among the highlanders the women would hide the men's swords, both so that a local dispute would not turn to blood and also so when the English came raiding they would not find weapons and imprison their men as rebels.

But when there was just cause for an uprising, it was the women who would be pulling the battleaxes out of the wells and the swords from their hiding places in the thatch and laying them across their husbands' knees, bidding them to war.

Moral of the story, tick off a Scot and you'll get a drubbing, tick off a Scottish woman and the countryside will be drapin your innards on the heather for the crows' Sunday dinner...
