President Obama has threatened House Speaker John Boehner that if no deal is struck on the “fiscal cliff,” he will use his Inaugural address and State of the Union speech next month to blame Republicans, according to the Wall Street Journal.
In the Journal’s behind the scenes account of how fiscal cliff talks between Obama and Boehner hit a wall, what comes across is that the president is emboldened by his reelection and eager to extract more concessions from Boehner than he was willing to accept during last summer’s debt limit talks.
This excerpt from the piece is revealing:
Mr. Obama repeatedly lost patience with the speaker as negotiations faltered. In an Oval Office meeting last week, he told Mr. Boehner that if the sides didn’t reach agreement, he would use his inaugural address and his State of the Union speech to tell the country the Republicans were at fault.
At one point, according to notes taken by a participant, Mr. Boehner told the president, “I put $800 billion [in tax revenue] on the table. What do I get for that?”
“You get nothing,” the president said. “I get that for free.”

the only way to interpret behavior like this is that obama wanted to go over the cliff all along, and is being a deliberate a-hole just because he thinks he can.
this is not a professional way to negotiate, anyone with any experience negotiating would recognize that behavior like obama’s is stupid to the extreme, you don’t deliberately antagonize your opponent like that (especially if you will be working together in the future)
obama is like many weaklings, when they think they are in a powerful position, they overplay their hand.
If I were Boehner, I would have told him he would be invited to the House of Representatives to make his SOTU speech from the womens sh!tter since control of room assignments are at his discretion.
You mean the same fool who just whipped Mitt and picked up seats in both houses when polls less than two years ago showed Rs setup to pick up the Senate control?. He is ahead of clueless Rs every move.
The debt limit will be part of Os terms of surrender to Republicans. Extend it for ~ 2 years. They are like Charlie Brown.

State of the Union “speech”? Maybe the speaker of the house will neglect to invite the One to speak before a join session of congress. The constitution requires the president to report to congress. It doesn’t require congress to listen, or host, a speech.
Boehner should tell the One to have one of his lackeys write the report on a Big Chief tablet with a fat pre-school crayon, and mail it in by the deadline.
Come to think of it, there’s no reason for congress to invite the One to give an inauguration speech on the grounds of the capitol either. The swearing-in can be done in any convenient broom cupboard in the white hut.
Fine. Go for it, bozo. It’s not like the msm isn’t already spreading that little lie.
Let that evil bastard zero blame Boner. The GOP can throw Boner under the bus and maybe we can have someone to stand up to this God damn Devil. In WW2, Neville Chamberlin gave up his post to Churchill in order to face the enemy. Time for Boner to give up, but where is our Churchill?
Obama holds the world record for debt, what’s to stop this despotic and diabolical man from exerting his real desire? If unchecked, I have no doubt that Obama would happily exterminate more people than Mao, Stalin and Hitler combined; he is that depraved, IMO.
I pray every day that we are spared from this bastard.

The fact that there is a 1% chance of that happening tells me that we're now in free fall. I don't see anything changing until we hit bottom. The only question is when.

We've already seen that he is powerless. He will never get a vote on anything that raises any taxes.

Really! You know, there was a time that I liked Sarah, but she hasn’t worn well with me and many others. I fail to understand this “Sarah’s Brigade” nonsense. At this point in her “career” she is powerless, and she owes that fact to the way she’s operated for the past four years. Just tell us what you think she’s good at. If true Obama has exposed his hole card and we will have to see if Boehner has the wits to counter. I doubt that he does have the moxie to call Obama and he is so enamored with his dude appearance he will not willingly let any other player call Obama.
