He is well known as a stereotype and is portrayed in the Movie In Harm’s Way. He volunteered because it was politically expedient and a necessity to career growth.
Then why didn’t all aspiring politicos do it? Why did some avoid it and then later strive to be perceived as tough, virile politicos?
Sorry, but I will always reserve some respect for anyone who volunteered. I don’t look down a bit at those who did not volunteer, unless they later tried to portray themselves as tough guys an guys like Kerry as weenies.
Never denigrate a man who went to fight for his country, especially if he got hurt. His politics are fair game but not his manhood.
