Next Move Is Obama’s After Boehner’s Tax Plan Fails (McConnell preparing to surrender?)
NY Times ^ | 12/21/12 | JACKIE CALMES

With House Republicans’ revolt over their leader’s tax plan the evening before, President Obama on Friday faced the challenge of finding a new tax-and-spending solution — perhaps working now with Senate Republicans — to prevent a looming fiscal crisis in January.

-snip-

Officials in the administration and Congress, and in both parties, suggested the likeliest route was for Mr. Obama to seek a bipartisan accord with Senator Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat who is the Senate majority leader, and Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Senate Republican minority leader, and hope that it could get through the House under deadline pressure. Last year, when the president and Mr. Boehner were at an impasse over getting Congress to approve the essential increase in the nation’s borrowing limit, it was the wily Mr. McConnell who first suggested the legislative way out of the mess.

Looks like a great chess move. Let’s see if the dictator in charge asks for more power?

Guess what, Barry....all tax and appropriation bills must originate in the House of Representatives. The Senate can’t do crap without it.

“McConnell enlisted in the 100th Division (Training), U.S. Army Reserve, in Louisville, Kentucky, during his final semester of law school. He did six months active service at Fort Knox, thereafter serving the active reserve.[7] He received an early discharge for optic neuritis, which is a common manifestation of multiple sclerosis.[8] However, it is unknown if he has multiple sclerosis.”
“Boehner enlisted in the United States Navy but was honorably discharged after eight weeks because of a bad back”
HUMMM do I see a PATTERN here?

I’ll be interested to see what Reid and 0 come up with. They might talk ‘bi-partisanship’, but really.

It is less accurate to say “Boehner’s tax plan failed,” than to say, “the DemocRats rejected their own tax plan in order to escalate their political war on the GOP and their economic war on the middle class.”

Yep, "sequestration" and the failed "Supercommittee." Thanks Mitch!

“Last year, when the president and Mr. Boehner were at an impasse over getting Congress to approve the essential increase in the nation’s borrowing limit, it was the wily Mr. McConnell who first suggested the legislative way out of the mess.”

The wily Mr. McConnell came up with ridiculous plan to allow the debt ceiling to increase automatically in two installments unless two thirds of both bodies stopped it. and even if they did vote to stop it, Obama would have vetoed the stoppage. It was a sham all along, but the press thinks that McConnell is brilliant.

McConnell came up with this plan at the very instant that the House was voting for Cut, Cap and Balance. It was done intentionally to undermine the conservatives in House who wanted actual spending cuts and a balanced budget.

And if we all recall, it was called “Plan B” at the time.

McConnel and his allies in the Senate were desperate to prevent the House from acting. Because that meant that the Senate would have to act, and they never want to work or take a stand on anything. And of course, Boehner then undermined the members of his own body by going along with McConnell’s plan. And here we are, and they’re once again turning to McConnell to save the day.

But McConnell won’t be able to get conservatives in the House to sell out. And Boehner’s influence over them is gone. The republican leadership will now have to depend on their buddies the democrats to get their bills through the Congress.

Why is it always up to Republicans to solve the problems? Boehner is running around trying to figure out how to sell out the country, and Obama just sits there and says “ Nope, not good enough”

There is absolutely no dissention among the Democrats. They are all in lock-step with Obama.

It’s long past time for the Republicans to just say FU and go home for Christmas.

McConnell neutered DeMint during the process, too. DeMint said he would filibuster and then got slapped by McConnell and went into hiding until the vote and didn’t filibuster. McConnell needs to be PRIMARIED, regardless of whatever deal he cuts with Obama and Reid.

No, no need to attack his military service. McConnell had childhood polio and it left him with lots of physical problems, including severe asthma. His illnesses and unfitness for military duty are real, so let’s not go there.

Obama knows (or thinks he knows) that if no deal is reached and we “go over the fiscal cliff” and bad things happen Boehner will not be Speaker after the mid-term elections. The voters can’t punish Obama so they will punish the Republicans prodded massively by the MSM.

It would seem to me that if any of the dems would have supported Bonehead’s stance, he would have opened up the floor to a full house vote. The fact he had less than 90% support in his caucus and none on the commie side of the aisle is quite telling to all except the MSM. Any informed person can see what is happening, the left and left of center’s don’t want to compromise one iota. Funny how the only ones who get nailed on this are the GOPs who cannot find their political ass with both hands.

Your standing post is low class. Attack McConnell for his RINOism, not his polio and paralysis.

I'm sad to say it but this represents nothing more than Kabuki. Neither side really wants to cut any spending, and they've both discovered that the gov't can print as much paper money as they want.

Until we go over the real cliff, but hey, by then Boehner will be the overpaid nominal head of some conservative think tank and Obama will be writing his memoirs in Hawaii. Boehner and Obama have more in common than either one has in common with those of us who work and pay for all this. This entire episode is insulting to anyone who has more than one active brain cell and only makes me embarrassed to admit that I contributed money to the Republicans and bothered to vote in the last election.

Could it possibly be that a promise NOT to raise taxes period is being honored here?
