The figures I saw were that only 1% of school-age murders take place when kids are in school and the total number of school-age murders is down over 40% since the early ‘90s.
But nobody seems to want data or rationality to enter a conversation they’re convinced we really need now before we take Constitution-trimming action by next week.
Every classroom I've ever been in had windows, and they're not bulletproof. So I guess we need a couple hundred billion to change out the glass as well.
Politicians typically act on emotionally derived nonsense. I have decided to, pretty much, take a break from the Adam Lanza threads enough to change my tagline because I am sick of people blaming inanimate objects for a mass shooting. Hell I just saw a message on my Facebook from Carlos Santana, who I like, with a song written about how awful guns are. Because the victims are invisible. Let’s concentrate on other things but them. Good grief. And how many parents of the victims have been asked about the blaming of the guns, and assorted other scapegoats with this? I am sure that they like to be the center of this massive paranoid control freak mentality that comes alive whenever something like this happens.
We’ve got politicians and assorted control nuts at the front of the car driving our car into a ditch. But at least they can say that “we’ve done something”(sarc.)
Is there anyone on this idiot’s staff who could convince her to stop making public declarations.
She’s in an uninformed taker district and can ride out her years in the luxury her positions provides. She should just lay low and enjoy her 2-block limo ride to the capital every day.
In all the cases of which I am aware, the attacker(s) were always already inside the building(s), and moving from classroom to classroom, not outside sniping through exterior windows. Very few classrooms have "glass walls" looking into the buildings interior. If you could simply keep them out of the rooms, many lives would be saved.
Isn’t she afraid if they install too many they will make the school tip over?
Look Hog, if they can't get through the door, and come through a window, your still dead.
"They" are in the building. The windows are outside. How do they "come through a window"? Certainly having gained access to the interior of the building, they aren't going to go back outside. After all, the police might be there. And of course, your theory only applies to ground floor classrooms. Many schools are multi-story. It's about protecting as many as possible. Having a bar on the door won't protect everyone, but it will protect some.
"They" don't even need to "come through a window", "They" can just shoot through them. One of "them" shot a bunch of kids on a playground from the woods and wasn't even on the grounds.
The point is, if you don't make the whole classroom a "safe room", it isn't safe.
So my approach of keeping the shooters OUT of classrooms will improve things. Is it perfect.....no. Will it save lives....yes. Should other measures be taken......yes.
But simple bars on classroom doors can be done very quickly and with minimal funds outlay. Other and further steps can be done later and incrementally.
