Star Senator search (Insiders: Kennedy Jr. best bet vs. Brown)
Boston Herald ^ | 12/20/12 | Hillary Chabot

Democrats seeking to convince the late Edward M. Kennedy’s son to join a special U.S. Senate election are moving to douse criticism that the Connecticut resident would be a Bay State interloper — pointing out that he owns a home on Cape Cod.

“Obviously there will be people who question his ties, but he considers Massachusetts home,” said a source close to the Kennedy family. “He’s seriously considering it, and he would be the best candidate for the Democrats.”

National Democrats ramped up their campaign to get 51-year-old Edward M. Kennedy Jr. to run yesterday. The Herald’s Truth Squad first reported on Monday that the Branford, Conn., resident was considering running if President Obama picks U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry to become his new secretary of state.

“He would be a good candidate. He’s got the same kind of upbeat personality that his father had, and I think he’d do well on the campaign trail,” said Phil Johnston, a Kennedy friend and former chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party. “He’s been here his whole life.”

Kennedy, who heads the New York-based financial services company called the Marwood Group, owns the late President John F. Kennedy’s former home near the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport, the source said. He’s owned it for at least three years and spends holidays and summers in Massachusetts.

One source told the Herald that Democrats are concerned that the current field of potential Senate candidates, including U.S. Reps. Edward J. Markey and Michael E. Capuano, would face an uphill battle in a race against departing Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, who is expected to run again if Kerry leaves.

Kennedy would have the clout and financial ability to compete against Brown, some Democrats believe.

The Kennedy news comes as a top political strategist for President Obama is also considering jumping into the race.

David Simas, a 42-year-old Taunton native who served as director of opinion research for President Obama’s re-election campaign, has been talking to a top Bay State strategist about running in the special election.

“This is something he has been in discussions about,” said a Democratic source.

Simas wowed local politicos after he spoke at a Bay State breakfast at the Democratic Convention in Charlotte, N.C., this summer. Simas, who once worked for Gov. Deval Patrick, might be able to lean on Patrick’s well-oiled political machine if he decides to run.

He also carries the potential fundraising power of Obama’s campaign. Simas joined Obama’s administration in 2009 and became his senior policy adviser before joining Obama for America. Obama’s expected announcement to nominate Kerry as secretary of state could come as soon as this week.

Attorney General Martha Coakley and state Sen. Ben Downing are also mentioned as potential candidates.

What the Democrats want to line is Vicki Kennedy...widow of Ted...to take the temp job and then easily win the election. The problem is that most of the Kennedy clan are very much anti-Vicki, and would mount a challenge against her. Brown? At best, I think he has a 50-50 shot at this. At least the public knows his past performance and all the skeletons in his closet have been revealed.

On second thought let’s not go to Camelot. It is a silly place.

Yes...I guess Gov Deval Patrick says it may be like last time where they may ask or require the "temp senator" not run for the office outright, as they'd just spend their few months in office campaigning for the seat... But the next election for what is now Kerry's seat is in 2014, not all that far away....

People not sure Vicki wants it. Anyway, while he has flip flopped on an assault weapons ban, imagine Scott Brown running against...Ted Kennedy Jr.

I think Patrick Kennedy may, but I don’t think Ted Jr does.

Well, we believe that... but we`re talking MA voters here. It`s Teddy Jr`s “turn,” you know... and when Kennedys want a Senatorial seat in MA, they get it.

Brown`s toast. The guy couldn`t even hold back a challenge from communist liar Fauxcahontas.

Prince Edward doesn`t “run” (i.e., call dibs) for that seat, The dems could run Barney Frank and win by 15%.

“...while he has flip flopped on an assault weapons ban, imagine Scott Brown running against...Ted Kennedy Jr.”

I just heard Brown now favors a so-called Assault weapons ban last night.

He is a scum bag and a trator. Who cares what happens in Mass, let them put in another Kennedy. Whats the difference anyway.

I will never see what the people of Massachusetts see in the Kennedy’s.

A bootlegging Nazi lover ,who lobotomised his daughter because she liked sex and his sons who all couldn’t keep their zippers up, Cheating on their wives with movie stars and others, murderers and rapists, drunks and dopers, but: they are all liberal with our money.

They hide theirs.

It really does not matter. Anyone named Kennedy is a shoe in in Mass.
As for Scot Brown and his born again moment on firearms, that is not unexpected. Kennedy lite Republicans are the rule today.
There is a hell of a lot more Kennedy lite Republicans in Washington than there are Palin or even Palin lite Republicans.

Still in prison and I’ll note the ironies:

—used to be a driver for Ted K’s ‘94 campaign...had been
arrested in NY for drunk driving, 1978
—married a golf pro (recall how he killed Martha Moxley)

(Wiki):”Then-Elan resident Gregory Coleman testified that Skakel was given special privileges, leading Coleman to say that “this guy can get away with murder” - and that Skakel responded, “I’m going to get away with murder. I’m a Kennedy.””

Next parole hearing in Oct 2017

If Brown could not beat a fake Indian Maiden, how can he beat a genuine Kennedy?

If an unsolicited opinion from Downeast has any currency with you folks from Norumbega Park, I advise sending Brown into exile with us in Aroostock County and we will try an re-brand HIM as an Indian ... a gun-control, big-gov RINO Passamaquoddy Indian Chief.

Besides, we might even be able to swing him the gay-marriage vote based on the fact that even he would look better in a dress than our present recumbent, Senatrix Olympia.

Youse are aware of course, that most Massholes believe Kerry to be a Kennedy? Just ain't no dealin' with your MA electorate, is there?
I remember back when Ted was being talked about for President, they interviewed a farmer from Presque Isle, who said

"Ted for President?
Ayuh, well there's an idea for you.
But he'll need probly need a driver."
