NEWTOWN, Conn. (CNN) Dicks Sporting Goods, one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world, says it has removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Connecticut, and is suspending the sale of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its chains nationwide.
The move was made out of respect for the victims and families of last weeks Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting during this time of national mourning, the store said in a statement Tuesday morning.
We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy, the statement said.
It was unclear how long the store will keep the suspension in place for the guns, known as modern sporting rifles.

Seems like you’d get a degree of bouncing around trying to shoot that rapid as well. The mechanism itself would seem to prevent that rapid of a sequence.
.223 seems like a very small round. A rifle is often used for distance shooting, and it seems it wouldn’t be all that stable since it’s so lite.

The ammo that is...
Actually, some of theirs are fully automatic.
I can see a news person using them as an example too.
DICKS !! (no apostrohe intended)
Full blown Communism, and no private long gun (other than shotgun) ownership.
There’s a recipe for peace. /s
.223 is designed for anti-personnel encounters. There have been reports from soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan of enemies taking two or three rounds of .223 and still walking or firing their weapons. The military switched to it because it meant they could carry more into battle.
As far as pure power for anti-personnel, you can’t go wrong with good-old .308. If the SHTF, I’ll be throwing .308 down the line to make sure what I hit dies or at least can’t get up.
Dick’s Chinese Sporting Goods is a good one to stay out of!
A deranged Chinaman may come at you with a meat axe!
Their merchandise is shoddy!
Thanks for the mention.
Mass Hysteria is an ugly thing.
They are probably on back order for months anyway due to the government purchases for Fast & Furious.
I just sent an email to Dick’s:

I have shopped at Dick’s in the past. Now that you have pandered to the extreme left by refusing to sell perfectly good rifles to American citizens, I will no longer shop there.
This phone number is listed 1.877.846.9997. I have not tried it.
Gun Owners , particularly hunters, know the dangers of firearms.
The responsible ones never point a weapon, even unloaded, at anything.
Respect for the damage a weapon can do is paramount.
Those who don’t excercise mental discipline with weapons commit the type
of heinous crime in CT, and on our streets everyday.
It’s the person, not the gun, that needs to be held to blame.....

I bought the Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe 2 30-06 bolt action at Dick’s last week as my Christmas present. Sunday they placed it on sale for $100 off the price I paid. But they refuse to offer the 30-day price guarantee on firearms. That pi$$ed me off.
Unfortunately there’s no real local competition for them. We need either a Cabella’s or a Bass Pro Shop in the Tampa locale.
My choice would be 7.62 x 39 here... almost the same, for the same reason.
I agree with your take on it.
.223 is for plinking IMO. If I had someone giving my family trouble, I would want my rounds to scare the crap out of them to discourage them and drive them off.
Something of that caliber slamming into wood around the assailant, would cause them to think twice.
I am finished with Dicks for good.
Used to be a convenient place to buy ammo......no more!

7.62x39 is a great all-purpose round, and it’s suitably between the heavier .308 (7.62x51) and the smaller .223 (5.56). If you want to varmint hunt, plink, or wound, .223 works. If you want to hunt big game or men, .308 is the way to go.
Bustard “suspends” indefinitely any purchases at Dicks Sporting Goods.
