The B.C. Human Rights Tribunal has agreed to hear a complaint against a restaurant chain that sells a beer called Albino Rhino, because a woman who suffers albinism considers it offensive, thus proving once again that society has lost all ability to solve small problems without turning them into big ones.
In this case, as is often the situation, both parties in the dispute have valid enough arguments – if you’re determined to have an argument.
Ikponwosa Ero, a 31-year-old immigrant from Nigeria, says Earls restaurants’ Albino rhino and wings combo is no different than offering an “Alzheimer’s appetizer,” or “Down syndrome daiquiri.” Albinism is a legitimate affliction, considered a disability in Canada. It’s a genetic condition in which sufferers are unable to manufacture skin and hair pigment. Most victims are considered are legally blind, and are susceptible to skin cancers.
Albinos are persecuted – and often murdered – in Africa, says Ero. That’s why her family moved to Canada, “to give me a chance at a better life.”

She looks fantastic. Probably has a thick mane of curly red ringlets. There are a lot of people much worse off than her. I think she needs a sense of perspective.
It’s possible that she’s wearing coloured contacts, not only for cosmentic reasons but to protect her eyes from UV damage. Albinos are considered legally blind because daylight can burn out their retinas and nearly all suffer from some vision impairment due to this.

In today's world, this has been transformed into the definition of Political Correctness, that somebody somewhere has offended somebody else anywhere ... and thus MUST BE FORCED TO STOP!" It is the club of control by the most easily offended!
The immortal RA Heinlein addressed it adequately when he added his 'Mrs Grundy' axiom to his "Laws of Lazerus Long"; "Freedom begins when you tell Mrs Grundy to go fly a kite!"
Unfortunately, in today's world of expansive government and legal barratry, we now run into the Chinese curse, "May you come to the attention of those in Authority!" Thus Earls Restaurant will now have to spend to defend themselves against someone's sense of freedom from offense! I do not see how this lady's potential victory will do anything but limit our freedoms elsewhere.
I always thought albinos had light, almost white, eyes. I guess I watched too much James Bond growing up.
