Boehner caves on taxes(the GOP will get nothing and we will get higher taxes now or later)

It's only a "partial" cave, in that Boehner agrees that the tax rates should go up on those making more than $1 million rather than $250,000 a year.

But if Boehner caves on taxes, who can believe him when it comes to any other red line Obama will try and force him to cross.

Associated Press:

Signaling new movement in "fiscal cliff" talks, House Speaker John Boehner has proposed raising the top rate for earners making more than $1 million, a person familiar with the negotiations said. President Barack Obama, who wants higher top rates for households earning more than $250,000, has not accepted the offer, this person said.

The proposal, however, indicated progress in talks that had appeared stalled. The person would only discuss the plan on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the negotiations.

As part of a broader budget deal, Boehner is still seeking more spending cuts than Obama has proposed, particularly in mandatory health care spending. Boehner has asked for a long-term increase in eligibility age for Medicare and for lower costs-of-living adjustments for Social Security.

Boehner's tax proposal was first reported by Politico.

A Boehner aide would not comment on the report.

At issue are expiring tax rates that would automatically increase on Jan. 1 for virtually every income tax payer if Congress and the president don't act. Steep budget cuts are also scheduled to kick in, unless Congress and Obama agree to forestall them with other deficit reduction measures.

Exactly. Much sooner, than later.
Can gun confiscation be far behind?
Can amnesty be far behind.

All the issues that have held the GOP together will soon fall apart.

The Democrats...the Republicans...

The RATs are all cut from the same cloth, of the union-thug, packer/muncher/ tree-hugger, socialist weave. They are a monolithic voting bloc. The democrats can be counted upon to be... "the democrats".

The Republicans are all over the map...RINOS, squishes and TEApublicans.

The Republicans ARE NOT "the Republicans".

And everybody wonders where lenin/hitler/mussolini/mao found their armies. Don’t think for a second that it couldn’t happen in the US. We are one convincing despot away from being the next soviet union or china.

Our Government elect is a mixture of cowards and tyrants; and WE sent them there, and allow them to live.

In the beginning there was “Right” and “Wrong”.

We’ve been compromising in the “Wrong” direction ever since.

Now, they call that “progress”.

Satan agrees.

If a FReeper will consider Boehner as he would any Democrat, nothing Boehner has done or does will surprise. Think of him as an uber-RINO or as a Democrat. It works better for one’s mental health and blood pressure.

We won’t be creating a 3rd party.

We will be creating a second one.

We had a choice.

  1. Limit spending increases (not cuts) and keep taxes neutral.
  2. Increase spending and raising taxes
Neither of these choices would have solved our fiscal dilemna. However, one of these choices will guarantee our more rapid downfall. The choice for option 2 was celebrated on Nov 6th.

Why not let the budget cuts and tax increases occur? We obviously don’t have the money to pay for the benifits anyways? After the cuts and tax increases take affect, start negotiating any increases or tax cuts at the new spending level and tax levels. Cap those increases at the rate of inflation.

I’d prefer a rise to 37% to 39.6%.

“BOEHNER IS NOT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!”

***

Um...yes he is. Boehner is a liberal. The dominant forces in the party are all liberal. Conservatives aren't welcome and haven't been since at least Reagan.

I’m not surpised that Bawlin’ Boehner caved.

He’s a linguini-spined GOP-e - caving to the left (so they won’t be mad) is what the GOP-e does.

Under the circumstances, I believe that the Congress has made itself irrelevant. What’s the point if a socialist totalitarian is going to get whatever hge wants, regardless of whether the Congress agrees?

You’ve got that right. Republicans cave a little here, a little there and pretty soon the democrats have all they want and need then tell the pubc to take a flying leap.

The dominant forces in the party are all liberal.

Well the "dominant forces" need to be taken out in two years at the next election, and in large enough numbers to make them back-benchers.

This is doable. Starting a 54th "third party" IS NOT!

Until then, they need to be pressured, embarrassed at townhall meetings, twittered against, criticized on conservative radio, ads run, naming them, harping against their positions...everything.
