WASHINGTON, D.C., December 14, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) Sen. John McCain and the former Secretary of State Colin Powell are backing a move in Congress that would expand abortion on U.S. military bases.
The two prominent Republicans are supporting a measure to authorize taxpayer funding of abortions for military women whose children are conceived by rape. Currently, bases only provide abortion to save the life of the mother.
If passed, the amended Defense Authorization bill would match federal employee health insurance, which already compels tax dollars to pay for abortions of children alleged to be conceived by rape.
While the Senate has passed a bill to expand the taxpayer funding of abortions of children conceived in rape, the corresponding House measure was passed without the abortion funding amendment.
The bill now goes to committee where Sen. McCain has cast his lot with Senate Democrats.
Explaining it as a matter of fairness, Colin Powell penned a public letter saying, Unlike other current federal restrictions on abortion coverage, the military ban provides no exception for cases of rape and incest. The current policy is unfair and must be changed. It was signed by dozens of military leaders.
Powell, whom liberal Republicans once touted for the Republican presidential nomination, endorsed Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. McCain has recently told pro-life Republicans to leave the issue of abortion alone.
However, military veterans and personnel are not all marching in lock step with their leaders on this issue.
Angela, a former member of the National Guard, is scheduled to meet her 14 year-old daughters rapist in court on Monday. She asked that her last name be omitted for the sake of security.
As a former solider and the mother of a female soldier, I am concerned about this new push to allow abortion in cases of rape, she told LifeSiteNews.com. It is my belief, from our experience with the military, that if they allow this practice, instead of helping rape victims it will only further add to the trauma.
What better way [exists] to cover up a sexual assault? she asked. Allowing or even encouraging a rape victim to abort is not caring for her.
Angela, before her daughters rape, held the popular opinion that is motivating the Senate to change the law: that abortion is the compassionate action for rape victims. Until our little girl was raped, I would have never understood this mindset either, she said. How could anyone ask a victim to keep a child conceived in rape? In my mind that was cruel and wrong for so many reasons.
But, through experience, her mind was changed. I could not have been more wrong.
Our grandson did not add to the trauma, confessed Angela. In fact, he actually helped our daughter and he helped our entire family. His life has been such a blessing.
Rebecca Kiessling, a board member of HopeAfterConception.org who was herself conceived in rape, told LifeSiteNews, Right now, a soldier could contemplate raping a woman and, knowing the state of the law, he knows that hes more likely to get caught if a baby is born. But, what this law does is give rapists hope.
Abortion serves to protect and enable rapists, added Kiessling. If you really care about rape victims, you need to protect them from the rapist, not the baby.
Angela urges the senators pushing for abortion coverage in the defense bill to look at stories like hers and reconsider their position.
She pleaded, I truly wish that those who are looking at changing this regulation would also look at the other side of this issue.
Big, bad, John McCain the "hero" POW of Vietnam. He stifled a wider investigation into the sightings of American POWs, but why? And now? He is using his power and position and influence against the most vulnerable of our species to make sure they don't breath air, as guaranteed by the Constitution, but more importantly, by the Natural Law, the law that McCain seems to have forgotten.
Let's kill more babies. What animals these people have become.
I am against abortion, but if this becomes the law of the land let’s at least make it a part of that law that the woman has to agree to prosecute the rapist.
Otherwise every woman that wants an abortion will claim rape.
“The two prominent Republicans”
I almost spit my coffee out! That’s a pretty laughable statement. Prominent in their own minds possibly, but that’s about as far as it goes - especially for Powell.

I am totally disgusted with McCain and Powell. I would say "pigs" if it weren't for the unfair reference to a fairly nice mammal.
The two prominent Republicans, what a laugh!
Up until now McPain had nominally held the line on abortion, but now he is joining another old fallen comrade who was a big abortion booster, the late Admiral Stockdale, and I presume C. Powell as well.
Sadly, there are FReepers who will support this.
The original ROE of Roe V. Wade claimed she was raped, because her lawyers thought that emotional issue would help sway judges, and it worked. She later confessed that this was a lie.
Of course, she also had her child before the case was decided, and she loved that child, and is now a pro-life activist.
So, how do you know that the woman was raped? In some cases they will of course show trauma, and they will identify their rapist and prosecute.
But they could also claim they were drunk and didn’t give permission for sex, and don’t remember which guy they went home with. Or they could say their boyfriend took advantage of them but they don’t want to prosecute him. They could claim date rape drug, or say the didn’t get a good look at the man who did it.
Or they could do like that one family who killed their kid, and just make up a description of the “rapist” that will never match anybody.
Imagine being a kid, and being aware, and knowing your life hinges on how good your mother is at lying.
The shootings yesterday remind me of this — we hate most when kids are murdered, and yet the democrats pushing gun control are happy to cut kids up with knives and suck their body parts out, simply because those kids are an inconvenience to women.
Correct.
Right.
“It was dark.”
“I couldn’t see his face.”
“I just can’t remember anything.”
We’ll also get fake descriptions and false allegations.
I think you mean well, but the outcome will be poor.
they could also claim they were drunk and didnt give permission for sex,
This doesn’t hold true for the man if he were also drunk. If a woman can be “too drunk to consent” then a man can too.
Perhaps our ancestors knew what they were doing when they didn’t put women in the military to begin with...
But, of course, as modern and sophisticated people, we never question our own mistakes. We just keep making more.
By the way, it’s tax-payer funded no matter how she does it.
So sad, especially in light of the slaughter of 20 innocent children by a crazed madman yesterday. Our human lives are so brief anyway, why prohibit a child from being born? We are not God, we do not know what caliber person that child will be. We can easily be misinformed, mistaken, totally wrong about people. Perhaps that unborn child is supposed to be the next great inventor, musician, artist, scientist, doctor, engineer, philanthropist, etc. We limit ourselves when we interject our jaundiced perspectives on whether the unborn should live or die. The miracle of life is so disregarded by our sinful hearts that we condone the killing of the unborn.
God, please, open our eyes, open our hearts, open our minds to You! Let us not forget that we ARE our brothers’ keeper! AMEN!
When you have no self control and morals governing your reproduction/sexual behavior (humanness), people are more like animals than human.
Government must control you to serve it’s purposes...in this case, kill the babies made out of animal expression, that do not serve it’s purposes. Pregnant female animals and their litters don’t serve the military purpose.
Amen.
America isn’t the only nation that is beset by blood-crazed madmen. There is a long list of them within the past year.
Who among us can say how God will react to the evil that man has perpetrated?
A couple of prominent Republicans.
That’s what they are. It’s how they are viewed and it’s how the GOP goes. Conservatives are so busy with their lives that they are letting the country be taken away while they whine. But they can see this.
When I called McCain’s office this time of the year in 1998 right after L. Graham & co. had let Clinton off the hook for having illicit sexual activity in the Oval Office while on the job as CIC, an activity that would force any two striper or Ltc to resign in disgrace, well, like in the case of Petreaus, McCin was the head of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
His staffer’s response was to request support for McCain’s prez run.
He’s never been anything but a low rate son of a Navy guy who did poorly in the USNA and then got shot down on wone of his initial combat flights.
Yet I know many people who liked him in his run fro president.
He is an idiot alwas has been
and he certainly IS a prominent republican. He is.
THis move will bury the military.
It allows for rape. It lets the rapist off the hook and kills murders the victim. The woma will have no choice but to kill the baby, where it was that a woman could be honorably discharged on pregnancy. THe stupid a$$ women will take this as emancipation, when, the only thing that should be taken from the Conn. Massacre is that there are 55 million more innocent bloody murders and God sees it.
