Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez's cancer is most likely terminal given the disease's recurrences, and while the president may bounce back for periods, his health is increasingly at risk, say several leading cancer specialists not involved in the treatment.
Mr. Chávez is recovering from surgery in Cuba this week after the president said malignant cells reappeared for a third time in his abdomen. Venezuela's government hasn't disclosed what type of cancer he has or what the surgery was for. But it has described the more than six-hour operation as "complex and delicate" and said Mr. Chávez might not be back in Caracas in time for his Jan. 10 inauguration for a new term after 14 years in power.
Doctors say Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is almost certainly suffering from sarcoma, a rare cancer that is usually more aggressive than other types of the disease. Jose de Cordoba has details on The News Hub. Photo: Reuters. . On Thursday, Venezuela's government said doctors upgraded Mr. Chávez's condition to "favorable" from "stable." Earlier, it said the operation had "complications" and "needed corrective treatment due to bleeding."
Doctors say cancer is a game of odds, and that Mr. Chávez may yet stage a full recovery. "The one thing we do know is that we are not great at predicting," said J. Randolph Hecht, director of gastrointestinal oncology at the University of California at Los Angeles. "Only in Hollywood do people know how long they have."
Despite the secrecy surrounding the politician's condition, however, intelligence analysts in the hemisphere and doctors who specialize in cancer say they can piece together a rough prognosis based on publicly available informationeven though they have no direct knowledge of the case.

Good night, Dark Prince. Rot in hell! Viva Venezuela libre!
Make peace with God, Chavez, before it’s too late. That’s my recommendation.
Chavez has had the meat.
It’s all over but the crying.
I don’t wish cancer on anyone, but it does seem a fit punishment for the creep.Sean Penn will miss and Danny Glover will miss him, I doubt many other Americans besides Joe Kennedy will.
It is hard to do, after all the suffering that he has caused, but I will pray that he finds Jesus before he dies.
... and said Mr. Chávez might not be back in Caracas in time for his Jan. 10 inauguration for a new term after 14 years in power.
I hope he dies before then, it would make the election
questionable.
Brighter days maybe ahead for the country.
Let the real suffering begin in a fiery lake
Surely Jeff Spicoli is there to comfort him in his final hours, whispering passages from the Communist Manifesto in his ear.
May he see him soon.
“Outlook for Chávez Darkens, Doctors Say”
Finally, some good news....
Hugo get ready to say hello to your little friend ..... S A T A N !
Yeah, right... didn`t we hear this same noise last year?
I know it, huh?
I am a little disconcerted at how much this bit of news brightened my day....
It must be that last month was so awful
Doubt too many Cuban docs worked on Chavez. They certainly brought in some Spanish ones.
WSJ calls the thug a “politician.” That’s rich. Like calling Obama a “patriot.”
If it had been anybody but Chavez, I could see being disconcerted. However, in his case, the cancer is the only thing not malignant.... His being closer to divine judgement can only be a positive occurrence.
And outlook for Venezuela brightens
... like the hole in his bowel.
I’m with you. I depise the man and his actions, and I am sorry for Venezuela and what he has put them trough, but it doesn’t naturally extend that I would wish him any extraordinary pain. Rather, I pray for a new beginning and better times.
I opined that a good new year’s gift would be for Hugo to assume room temperature on or about 1 January 2013. Perhaps dreams come true.
