I'm not going to quote from this article because I don't want to make anyone ill.
However, I will tell you that one of the author's sources is Mother Jones. I'm not joking.

Auditing Shooting Rampage Statistics
July 31st, 2012 Submitted by Davi Barker
Firearm prohibitionists love to use tragedy to leverage their agenda. So, its important for gun rights advocates to stand their ground and fire back (proverbially) whenever this happens.
Last week I posted a graphic on Facebook claiming the average number of people killed in mass shootings when stopped by police is 18.25, and the average number of people killed in a mass shooting when stopped by civilians is 2.2. I based it on 10 shootings I found listed on some timeline somewhere. I honestly dont even remember where. I presented the case studies in a blog post on the Silver Circle blog and I did the math myself.
The graphic was met with great enthusiasm and much skepticism. Leave it to Facebook users to demand an audit on a meme. So, I started over, only much more meticulous this time. I compiled and analyzed 93 shootings, noting my methodology, and I am now prepared to present my findings, complete with links to the data. But heres a spoiler Its not that different.
The average number of people killed in mass shootings when stopped by police is 14.3 The average number of people killed in a mass shooting when stopped by a civilian is 2.3....
...
While doing this I learned some important vocabulary. A spree shooting is when a killer murders in multiple locations with no break between murders. As in the Virginia Tech killer who began shooting in one hall, and then walked across campus and continued shooting in another hall. A mass shooting is when a killer murders multiple people, usually in a single location. As in the Fort Hood shooter who killed 13 people at one military base. A school shooting can be either of these as long as one or more locations is a school. As in the Columbine shooting, which is also classified as a spree shooting because they went from room to room. The term rampage shooting is used to describe all of these, and does not differentiate between them. So that is the term Ill be using from here on out.
I selected these lists because they were the most comprehensive of those that I found, and I was seeking as large a data set as possible. I combined them all, including the first 10 from my previous post, and removed all redundant data for a total list of 93 shootings....
Step Four: Final analysis
With 14 incidents stopped by police with a total of 200 dead thats an average of about 14.3. With 15 incidents stopped by civilians and 35 dead thats an average of 2.3.
The first point I want to draw your attention to is that roughly half of shooting rampages end in suicide anyway...

Then they'll just take away the right to bear hands...
Amen! To that!
Public “school teachers” know 1 thing:
“Your son is a distraction in the classroom! He needs to be put on Ritalin!”
I think that there has been a generation of our kids, now in their 20s (boys especially) that has spent hours and hours in their rooms behind the control of violent video games in which human “kills” score them points and advancement to upper levels in these games. I think it has desensitized many of them unfortunately and especially the ones that aren’t mentally stable to begin with. It doesn’t seem to me that these shootings were a problem until these video games came out and these kids have grown up on them. I’d be happy for them to ban those.
This article is all bovine excrement.
Blame the ACLU for letting all the loonies out in the 70’s.
I just noticed that everyone of these mass shootings has been done by a SON!!! We don’t need GUN control we need SON control!
Agreed, and what mental disorder were they masking?
The fact that no one seems to point out in all of these mass murders is that the shooters are all lunatics, mentally ill, psychotic, or insane. What ever word you want to use they are crazy.
Why are they out on the streets? Why haven’t they been committed for the safety of the general public? Because of libs who fight not to have them committed.
Has any of you had someone in your family who is mentally ill? I have, and it’s terrible. Praise God he didn’t kill anyone, but try and get help for them... it’s an impossibility. It took the docs 2 yrs to diagnose my relative. He should have been committed. Praise God he never killed anyone, but there are many out there who would and have.
Who’s to blame? Not the guns. Try our legal system. The crazies are running the asylum and they wear black robes.
The real agenda here begins to play out. This is the Krystalnacht Zero wants. He can destroy the GOP and turn those bitter clingers into hunted criminals by Chritmas!
Unless laws are radically different where you live, a teacher cannot prescribe a child any medication. They spout BS all they want, but in the end, medications are prescribed by a doctor, who must have a medical reason to do so.
Again, maybe things are different where you are.
So instead of banning one physical object, you want to ban another. Got it.
The problem isn't things. It's parenting.

Fact 13..........the mentally disturbed were released into society and trusted to take thier meds daily.
Fact 14..........these guns were registered to the mother and she knew her son had issues why werent the under major lock and key?
If guns are the problem, how come you NEVER hear of mass homicides on GUN RANGES?!!
Shouldn't there be some type of "shared sacrifice?" It's all for the children, you know. Gun owners shouldn't be the only ones to have to give up their right to ownership.
Shouldn't all types of media be it books, movies, TV shows, video games, etc, etc, be cleansed from every and all depictions or even insinuations of a firearm or weapons? It's for the children. We don't want them to know what a gun is and what its purpose is.
All law enforcement should immediately destroy their arms as well. If no one owns a firearm, then its only natural that society will be completely safe. Absolutely NO PERSON should be allowed to even be protected by anyone with a firearm, ranging from the President to the Hollywood actor to the richest person in the country.
The words "gun" "firearm" etc should be erased from society. All past media, be they history books, classic movies, documentaries, EVERY FORM of media should be cleansed from the idea of firearms. History should be taught in a way the completely leaves out the use of weapons.
These ideas are completely ludicrous, of course, but I was just thinking along these lines. The owner's of weapons should not be the only ones to suffer. Hollywood and the news media make TONS of cash off of the imagery and sensationalization of gun violence. Let them suffer too.
You know exactly what I mean. Klebal and Harris (sp?) of Columbine fame were jacked up on that crap. I’ll bet this huckleberry was too.
And then I’ll be he SUDDENLY STOPPED taking it!
That girl who shot up a mall in Florida in the ‘80’s did that. She was jacked up on Prozac. She stopped taking it. 2 month later she was dressed in camo, shooting up the mall before Christmas. Of course the propaganda machine only focused on the fact that she was using an “assault” rifle.
Who said they prescribe it? I didn’t.
Are you saying they don’t know of its existance?
They sure do! They have “school councelors” who can help you.
And thanks to HIPPA laws, doctors do not have to release information on mentally disturbed people to the public.
An FFL dealer has to take the crazy persons word that he isn’t crazy.
My point is...teachers can “SAY” any dumb thing they want. They can DO nothing to make it happen. Only a doctor can.
And school counselors are equally powerless to do no more than talk when it comes to medications.
