She is only going to embarrass herself.

Particularly because no amount of Federal Gun Control Legislation can get in the way of someone stealing a gun and using it ... which is what happened in CT today with the kid grabbing mom's gun and then driving her car off to the school to shoot her.

The common theme with all these shootings is that it is a mentally ill person performing the actions. Deal with mental illnesses properly and you don't have the symptoms of untreated mental illness on the street.

Just like a quack doctor who treats the symptoms and not the disease and creates a public health hazard as a result, so too will these Dumbocrat legislators who think the mentally ill don't actually need treatment.

We used to have mental hospitals. Where are they now?

“Nothing could have prevented this except an armed person with a gun who shot him dead before he did damage.”

I’m all for the right to self defense.

I just think that we as a society have to acknowledge that delusional people are dangerous. It seems from newspaper reports that this man was acting crazy for a good long while, yet we have to just let him wander among us crazy. This isn’t working.

Here's some advice from people who lived through just what we are looking at here and now:

And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?

Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?

The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

If...if...We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn - The Gulag Archipelago

But you can bury your guns, get down on your knees and pray they don't haul you off to the camps. And do you think they will allow you a GPS to find your hidden guns?

I acknowledge that delusional people are dangerous.

People are dangerous.

They always have been, and they always will be.

In order to protect ourselves from dangerous people, we harden our defenses.

Another thing that people are is stupid, and dangerous people take advantage of stupid people.

Travis,

Thinking that this “Gun Control” article may call for a cwiiping. We know how things turn out when statists have all the guns.

If we don’t disarm, the statists won’t be happy and will be more than willing to come and take them. What do you think?

I saved this quote from another FReeper about hiding guns: Too many want to bury their guns. Our guns will do no good if buried and not used against those who would deny us our basic rights. I don’t believe we should bury anything except those who will come for what we have. Posted on Monday, December 29, 2008 9:59:29 PM by rustyboots

Thanks for that quote from Rustyboots!

The problem is not the gun but the mother.

She should have maintined control of her son and failed. She should have removed herself from hamsway from her children.

She failed to do so. The woman, not the gun is root blame

At the end of the day...someone will wake up and realize there are over 1,000 pages of gun control laws already in effect (sales, ammo, checks, use, etc). So you ask yourself....another page to the 1,000....are we truly any better? If we had ‘bear control’ laws....could we prevent bear attacks? If we had more ‘bridge failure control’ laws....could we stop bridges from collapsing? If we just had more ‘ID theft control’ laws...we’d stop ID theft. Yeah, sure.

We went through ‘booze control’ with the probation era...and it really didn’t do much.

Course, if you wanted to put 75k emotionally out-of-control folks into mental institutes...we’d all jump up and say no to that....because you don’t dare put those poor unstable people away.

I protect my family in our home with Guns. The State writes laws forcing me to sen my children to their government schools. It is up to THEM then, to protect my children with Guns. If they do not, we should be talking about why public schools can’t keep our kids safe.

Funny how the guy homed in on the only place where he could be guaranteed to find a bunch of unarmed and completely defenseless victims. He knew there was absolutely NO chance of an armed defender when was buzzed through the office door...

You are using "FReeper logic" here. The problem is that many of the Congress-critters, McCarthy for one, are into "Moonbat logic."

Their thinking is that, if the first 1,000 pages of gun control laws didn't stop this, then we need another 100 or so pages to be sure this doesn't happen again. Never mind the fact that 99 1/2 of the new pages are restatements of stuff in the earlier 1,000. It makes the Moonbat "feel" like they did something. And "feelings" are far and away more important to these people than "actions".

How come they didn’t outlaw vans after the Oklahoma City bombing?

The same reason they didn't ban box cutters after 911?

Call me crazy.

>In the wake of the deadly Connecticut school shooting, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy said she has warned the White House “the gloves are off” if President Obama fails to act on the issue.<

Earth to imbecile female taking up a seat in the people’s House of Representatives. It is YOU, you ignorant twit, who sits in the LEGISLATIVE branch of our federal government. I would suggest you go and try reading what it is said branch of government does.

Homeschooling is admirable but difficult; it requires a huge effort on parents’ parts. I’m just past 40, and there is no doubt in my mind that publics schools were much better when I was younger than they are today. The quality of teachers has declined noticeably, and the breakdown of family life has removed a lot of the pressure to perform on the home front (many kids don’t read for fun anymore, for example). “Class size” was just a convenient scapegoat for the teachers’ unions, who simply want more members contributing to the unions.
