PHILADELPHIA - It's a union protest designed to bring you to tears.
Residents at the Vista apartment building on the 2800 block. of N. 47th St. in Philadelphia's Wynnefield section are losing their minds over a recording played by protesters from IBEW local 98.
Last Wednesday, the union set up an iPod and loudspeakers that plays this recorded message: "Your community is crying for jobs, participation and fair wages." It's what comes next that brings a tear to the eye: an extended crying jag by a seemingly fussy infant.
The recording- which began last Wednesday- runs each weekday from around 8 a.m. to mid-afternoon.
"I know everybody says they've got their rights," says longtime apartment resident Jean Smith, "and that's fine. But don't we have rights too, that we have to hear this constantly- every day?"
The electricians are protesting the use of a non-union contractor to do electrical work on renovations at the apartment building.

Many problems, all rolled up together and spelling the doom of civility.
The building shown, is usually inhabited by a good amount of St Joseph and PCOM students as well. Must be nice studying for finals and listening to a crying union baby blasting over speakers.
I have no doubt the sounds of the crying and whining were recovered at the Michigan rally the other day.
Seems like you should be able to counter that with your own loudspeakers and some of that noise-cancelling tech they put in earphones now.....
This is where we need an EMP weapon. Ideally a point and shoot device that is very directional. Blow the circuits in the sound equipment. See how fast the union electricians can fix that!
That might have the opposite of the desired effect.
Try playing the sounds of babies cooing and giggling instead.
Just think how fast the cops would be there if pro-lifers played the sound of a baby crying outside an abortion mill!
The apartment dwellers should each invest in a wrist rocket and a sack of marbles.
I doubt this is a recording of a babay. More likely it is grown Union members crying because they see power leaking away from them.
Leave it to the IBEW. This union in San Jose treated my brother like sh*t. I hope someone does a drive by on them.
The police are in unions TOO.
How hard would it be to find the residence address of the union boss and set up a similar recording outside his house and play it from morning to night.
Jean Smith, “and that’s fine. But don’t we have rights too,
This is the USA, buddy. No, you don’t have rights.
If this was done to an al-Qaeda prisoner, it would IMMEDIATELY be labeled as torture.
I found that loser on Twitter, in about 2 seconds. His last Tweet was about Rihanna a couple months ago. John Dougherty - IBEW scumbag.
how do they know it wasn’t a union member instead of a baby, is there a difference?
“Noise ordinances should be easy to enforce.”
That only works between 10:00PM and 8:00AM, durring the day noise is legal.
