Non-whites to make up nearly 60 percent of U.S. by 2060: Census

The shift will largely be fueled by minority births that continue to outpace those of whites, the agency said, based on data from the 2010 Census.

Nearly one in three U.S. residents will be Hispanic by 2060, up from one in six now, it said. The Asian population is also expected to more than double over the next five decades.

"The U.S. will become a plurality nation, where the non-Hispanic white population remains the largest single group, but no group is in the majority," Thomas Mesenbourg, the agency's acting director, said in a statement.

The United States has been on a steady path to greater racial diversity, and experts have predicted for years that minorities would be the "majority" before 2050. The Census Bureau on Wednesday projected that would happen in 2043.

Such a shift may take decades, but the expected changes are already reshaping politics, public policy, the economy and consumer spending.

The looming changes are especially evident as the country grapples with controversial issues from immigration and gay marriage to Medicare reform and social safety net programs in the wake of the recent presidential election.

Last month, U.S. President Barack Obama won a second term with overwhelming support from Latinos, blacks and younger voters. Gay marriage - now before the nation's top court - has been legalized in several states, which experts say shows growing acceptance among younger Americans.

Companies and advertisers have adapted strategies amid changing U.S. demographics by targeting more shopping malls aimed at Hispanic shoppers.

Although the white population has already declined in several states like California and Texas, the report underscores the trend nationwide, said Steve Murdock, former Census director and a sociologist at Rice University.

"This is increasingly a pervasive diversification ... It's not a few areas," he said.

Women have contradictory makeups. One of these facets can be a subliminal hatred for white men even though married to one. So they cheer for those who would depose white men from their top position. More especially women who are working and some see white men as their rivals at work. So they vote for Barak Obama to get to us.

Women have submitted to conquerors (real and would be) since time began. A good example would be the many examples of French women under German occupation. Or the women in Europe who convert to Islam after marrying a Muslim.

So every time Joe Sixpack goes to get a job the majority of other applicants will be given preference to him, and his kids will be spotting a couple hundred SAT points to most of the other applicants to college when they apply, if they bother.

Plus it is getting where most immigrants (90% of immigration is from the 3rd world) can apply for affirmative action preferences in college and jobs etc and get the slot ahead of the native born white applicant with a family history in America of generations and hundreds of years

Hispanic immigrants can be white as snow and get in on the American affirmative action scam, So can Africans we get a ton of  African immigrants and refugees these days. Asians are mixed. Some can get AA some cannot

To carry on, aside from the MBDA, minorities also have the SBA and its various programs like the 8(a) Business Development in which the SBA boasts that “Under the Small Business Act, certain individuals are presumed socially disadvantaged: African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Native Americans (American Indians, Eskimos, Aleuts, or Native Hawaiians), and Subcontinent Asian Americans. An individual who is not a member of one of the groups listed can be admitted to the program if he/she shows – through a “preponderance of the evidence” – that he/she is socially disadvantaged. For instance, an individual may show social disadvantage due to race, ethnic origin, gender, physical handicap, long-term residence in an environment isolated from the mainstream of American society; or other similar causes.” [8]

What do you mean drop? Should we drop "height" and just all be "medium"? Height is just a fact about people. For some things it's completely unimportant, for some other things it's very important. But either way it just *is*.

Despite the "social construct" people race is a real thing too. There are all sorts of things you can tell by people's race - whether they are susceptible to this disease or that disease, what there life expectancy is, how likely they are to go to jail. Sure, all statistical generalizations.

Culturally, it's an even more important marker, though. Meet a black man today and there is a 19 in 20 chance that he voted for Obama.

I think the longing for race to be invisible is a white pathology, based on misplaced white guilt. Blacks don't want race to go away. Go watch the Jamie Foxx video: blacks are (and again there is an exception to prove the rule out there) thrilled to be black, revel in their race.

All the Chinese I know are happy they are Chinese, and think the Chinese are the best race, the biggest race, the oldest race, the greatest of the Asian races, etc.

Whites used to think that way too. But now our kids are fed Sesame Street and "we're all equal" as little kids, and then Howard Zinn - the evil white oppressor, the history of Bad Things White People Did all through elementary and high schools, and so by they time they are 20 they either wish they were some other race (sometimes going so far as pretending that they are Indians like the Lady Senator from Massachusetts) or just wish that the "race would all go away".

Race isn't going away anymore than height - though the white race is certainly declining, and as so many of our markers are recessive the fashion for intermixing is certainly harder on whites than other races.

BTW: If we followed your thought, why should we have male and female - everyone should just be genderless. We should all identify as androgynous / transgender, eh?

My preference isn't for race to go away, it's for Whites to get a renewed sense of pride and racial solidarity, just like all the other races. Why no "white caucus" in the House? The black caucus is not going anywhere, that's for sure. Right now we alone, as a race, are unilaterally disarmed, and we are pushed around just like every other unarmed group in history. Not good. Time to arm up, man up and stand up!

I sense that by then, a growing number of Euro-Americans will be leaving America for those places where they will make their “last stands” — places like Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Perhaps by then Alaska may break off and become an independent nation, or in some kind of alliance with the western provinces of Canada.

In some ways, it’s almost as if we were watching evolution in action (and not in slow-motion, either).

We are literally seeing the emergence of a new “sub-race” of people, who have similar physical characteristics, and (most importantly) who regard -themselves- as being a separate and distinctive “racial group” — hence, “La Raza”.

Most do not consider themselves to be “gringos” or “Anglos”. They consider themselves to be -something else-. Thus, “Hispanics” or “Latinos”. Not Indian, not black, not white. Their own, and new, group.

The “European-AmerIndian admixture” simply didn’t exist prior to the arrival of Europeans to the New World. Yet this -new- ethnic/racial group clearly exists today. It has literally “sprung up by itself” within the time frame of, say, 550 years. A drop of water in the “evolutionary ocean”, and all the more remarkable for having emerged in so short a time frame.

I have long felt like I am in a lifeboat with idiots shooting holes in the bottom of the boat, and for the life of me I can’t get them to stop it. We are all in the same boat and I am stuck with the consequences of their actions, shooting holes in the boat as the water rushes in. I’m bailing and screaming “stop shooting the boat” while they blast away with glee, completely ignorant why the boat is filling with water and what they are doing to cause it.
