Because somewhere along the way, they allowed themselves to be convinced that “any man is better than no man” or “they don’t deserve better” or “when he treats me right, he REALLY treats me right”...or any other of 100s of excuses.
Those who physically abuse women often emotionally and verbally abuse them as well, spending months and even YEARS convincing those women there is nowhere to escape.
The victims need encouraging and patient people in their lives working to build them up—because the abuser is often hell-bent on minimizing their contact with friends and family and on tearing down self-confidence, self-reliance, etc.
If someone looks down on them or makes snide remarks about them, they aid the abuser, not the victim.

Yes, because when I am yelling really loudly in an argument, it often causes other people’s footwear to give out.
Oh, and I always plead guilty to a criminal charge when my girlfriend slips and falls.

I don't think so. His daddy, Jim Moran, is my Congressman, and he's a powerful DemocRAT. More likely, she and her family were threatened with some severe stuff if she testified truthfully. Maybe the Morans gave her a couple bucks afterwards.
