My point was that things are changing, even in the boonies. There was a time, not that long ago, when whites were 98% of the rural population.

I remember about 1997/98 or so, when I went to rural NW Pennsylvania and NE, Ohio, we asked a young guy, about 15, directions and he called my mother, "ma'am," and me "sir." It was quite refreshing.

There are still folks who teach their children old-fashioned politeness and respect.

I will add this: the black women I see are working at Walmart. They are in their 30s/40s. Last week, I was in the line of one cashier and she was so competent and friendly, it crossed my mind to say something positive to the shift supervisor.

These people have come here and appear to be assimilating. So, perhaps we are benefiting from the minorities that really want a better life.
